....define "ripped" from your perspective and exactly what you want to achieve.

I know some of the oddball optmists out there will disagree, but running, push-ups and sit-ups will make you "lean" but you can forget about good muscle tone of any significance without some weight resistance exercises other than chins.

However if its this look you want to achieve then go for "lean" as opposed to "ripped".

ripped = bursting at the seams. to get that, you gotta be packing weight.
