Go see Doctor!

I had a similar thing wrong with me. Definitely go and see somebody about it. I went to a physio as I knew it was muscular. You need to see somebody before you lift something and damage it big time! Problems like this can haunt you in the future if not treated properly.

So it does not give you much trouble if any unless you in the gym "straining"?

There is a few muscles in the neck that can go tight due to your postural habits, work (if it reinforces bad postural habits) bad sleeping position etc....

While your description is not really specific enough (How could it be through the internet right  ) But muscles like Sternocleidomastoid, Scalenes and Rectus capitis posterior are usually the culprit. There is lots and lots of nerves passes / makes their way between these muscles to other structures in the body and if the muscles get tight, they can compress the nerve which in turn will send out pain signals and cause you discomfort/pain.

In my opinion you should probably go to a good manual therapist as in my humble opinion they would be better suited to deal with it than a doctor. Your GP might be a fantastic/lovely guy but is not really the right guy to see for this kind of problem.

Not to panic tho, if it is a just a musculoskelatal problem it is relatively easy to correct and should not take long at all.

This is just my opinion and advise so take it or leave it.

However I do hope you get well soon and be able to get back to training without any unnecessary niggles and hinderance.

Good luck

  • 2 weeks later...

A guy at my gym had the same problem, he was always moaning about it  We kept telling him to go see a doctor but he reckoned he didn't need to cos he got some advice off the internet. He stopped showing up. Turns out he died from some bleeding brain thing.
