Oceania Bench Press Championship

Best Bench

Recommended Posts

The Oceania Bench Press Champs will be held in Christchurch next month. New Zealand's top benches will be taking on lifters from Australia, Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia and Nauru.

I am lucky to be part of a strong Eastside contingent (6) that have been selected to represent NZ. Check out some of our latest training footage:

Awesome. Would go if it was in the North Island...

Out of interest, how much does one of those bench tops add to your bench?

They add between 30 - 40%.

I don't think its that much is it?

There are a number of variables that will effect the carryover I think you could change the range to 10% - 50%. But the average is probably closer to 20% - 25%.

Reuben Simanu, NZ's biggest ever bencher

Steven Pritchard one of Australia's best benchers is off to the world champs in May but is looking to put up some big numbers at the Oceania's first

I am excited :pfft:

This is going to be a great competition. Upwards of 90 lifters from several countries (5 or 6 I think). Not since the Commonwealth Champs in 2008 have we seen such a class international field.

And to follow on Sunday 14 February we are having an informal raw training session at Eastside. This will be open to the public and several top lifters will be in action. More details to follow.

Hope there is a good showing of Christchurch members of this forum. Go and support our guys!

All the support we can get is appreciated, I think plenty of crowd noise is worth 5 - 10kg!!

7 lifters from Chch I believe and a total of 14 from the Canterbury Association.

The other lifter from Christchurch who we have been lucky to have at some of Eastside Club lifts is Toso Ieti.

Toso has moved into the Master 4 (70+) this year and he should be close to breaking the World Record in the M4 100kg class. The current record is 170kg, Toso benched 162.5kg at the Nationals in October.
