Yeah it was a great meating from my perspective :P sounds like the local bodybuilding scene is rearing to go into a big year of compitions and with 15 in atendance and apoligies and feedback from 6 others i feel that there was a fair representation and we will be having regular open meetings from hear on in.

All i can say at this stage is "Bring on the Malta qualifier on May 1st"

Having heard a little bit of feedback regarding this (sounded quite interesting) is there anyone who attended who would care to go into a bit of detail?

More details will be announced after the NABBA NZ AGM this Sat 30th Jan. Exciting times ahead. Start your engines & your diets.

After reading all the previous posts it sounds very exciting if Nabba does change over. Obviously this is more of a plus for our international atheletes. Does anybody know of any competitors who are planning to go to the worlds in Malta? Do we have any figure or bodybuilding athletes that are up to the standard to compete in the worlds? From what I see and hear it appears that the quality and condition of atheletes are amazing.

I know Neralee from Wellington is definitely doing the figure at World's in Malta. The standard is very high at the World's, a lot harder than we have been used to over the last 7 years but that is the way it should be.

I have seen Neralee compete, she has an awesome figure, has quite a lot of muscle on her frame and great structure. How do you think she would go over at the worlds? I guess she would be our top figure girl?

She is amazing but the competition at International level is phenomenal so to get in the top 6 would be a great achievement. I think only the top 6 get to do their routines at night.

The Nabba UK Figure does not have a weight restriction as we currently have in Nabba NZ so the girls can hold a lot of muscle. If we affiliate with Nabba?Wff the WFF has weight restrictions on Figure and Athletic.

These competitirs would need to go to the WFF Worlds which are in Katerina, Greece a week after the Nabba World's.

This weight restriction prohibits Neralle from doing Figure in New Zealand so she would need to do Physique.

It will be interesting to see if any women physique competitors switch to Figure when we become Nabba/WFF.

I follow the figure here and in Australia and would say at least NZ is sending a great figure girl. I know from a couple of the Aussie girls who have competed with her say she is a true competitor on and off the stage. If Neralie does do well over there it would be a great thing for our figure here in NZ. It is all good for those physique girls changing over to figure, but they have to look the part to. I suppose with Neralie she has the whole package, muscle, structure and looks like a real girl. I have to say I saw the dvd of the Nationals in Aussie and the condition she was in (and won by the way) would be a hell of alot better than most of our physique girls. I dont know her but admire her physique. I would love a bod like that lol

Maree to put you on the right track Neralie does not represent NABBA NZ thats why she went to AUS NABBA so she can get real competition. No bodybuilding federation in NZ would help her thats why when i see someone thats very good i tell them to go over to AUS

It's true she is not representing Nabba NZ but when Graeme sends our athletes they are classed as New Zealand competitors. Lisa Bailey was listed on the Universe results 2009 as "New Zealand".

Thanks for that. I think that is quite a shame really that our own country wont support our best atheletes and help them. She would have the best figure I have seen in "figure" for a long time.

It seems odd that if you compete as a "New Zealand" athelete, one would think that you are representing your country which is NZ and there federation of whom you are competing (Nabba NZ) regardless of who sent you over to the worlds. Doesnt seem right that we have Lisa and Neralee who are world competitors and are in the top of there classes and receive no support what so ever. What motivation and hope does this give the rest of us?

Don't make comparisons and put down 'most of our physique girls' in NZ. You should be encouraging and more positive, also take into account how long some of us been training.

I met Neralee (backstage at nationals) she has a tuly awesome physique, beautiful, that's why she took out the overall figure at the Australian titles in Oct las year, plus she is a lovely lady . No doubt she will do well in Malta and for future comps

HI Luv me oats, didnt mean to offend, prob should have re-phrased that. I do realise how long some of us have been training, and what it takes to get in good shape. Truly is hard work!

You don't need support to be motivated! It comes from within.

Anyway body building is an out of pocket expense we all face, and do it because we love the sport and competing

The only help I had was from my sister (with tan and comp prep) when I competed at the Southerns on the Gold Coast. A bit of coverage from Go Figure post comp as well, Lisa Menzies does a great job.

My understanding is that you only represent NABBA NZ if it is an event i.e. worlds / universe / Asia Pacific that NABBA NZ has some affiliation with or hand selected a team.

To a great degree yes it comes from within but it does help a lot if we are supported by our country. Having to compete through Australia has stopped many top athletes including myself from going to the World's and Universe. Not only do we have to pay to qualify in Australia we don't get the subsidy we used to get from Nabba NZ to help with expenses.

Without sponsorship I could go to the Universe for about $2500 of my own money. To do a local qualifier and Nationals in Australia and then go the Universe with no subsidy puts that cost out to $5000 to $6000.

Some of us just don't have that money despite what we have within.

Anyway lets just wait and see what happens on saturday at the Annual Nabba Conference.

Quote of the week for me ...
You don't need support to be motivated! It comes from within.

Well said

I agree that is a great quote, but not really what I was getting at. I was meaning more along the support as in subsidy in helping our top atheletes getting to the big comps like the worlds and universe. I would assume that for Neralie and Lisa they wouldnt need any help getting support to be motivated, more along the lines of support financially, like Agent86 had commented on.
