newbie with product question

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm from Palmerston north and started going to the gym 6 months ago. I just have some question regarding to protein shakes.

I'm not very experience and I ultimately picked these two but I'm not sure which is better:

PVL Whey Maxx High Protein Powder

Horleys ICE Whey Protein Powder (WPI)

The nutritional info don't seem too much of a different but for muscle building what would you guys recommend? or is there other products that are far more superior that I mite consider?

Thx

The main thing you should understand that at your stage the only total amount of protein is important not the brand. And moreover if you're normal build you can get all nutrients you need from the usual food as meat, fish and nuts.

yea as i said in another thread, don't pay ridiculous amounts of money for nice packaging :pfft:

if you're willing to pay for protein shakes then by all means try them, but remember that despite what those brands like horleys tell you, nothing beats real food :)

protein is protein, any of the brand powders will do for you. Some might be more pure than others, be from a better class of bean or have better marketting, but it all came from the same acorn. You can over analyse your supps, when its all pretty much the same thing. Supplement it in with your good food choices and if you find a powder that tastes good then stick to it. Some aint so hot in taste.

not a fair comparison ...

Whey maxx states it has similar specs to horleys but if you divide the serve size with the protein content per serve ICE will win on the day. It is a far superior product and as a result will hurt your product. In saying that I have had clients on whey maxx for years and they have had some great results.

Whey maxx = 70% protein per serve (makes you wonder what else is in there if it only has 3g of carbs  - true to label??? )

ICE Whey = 92% protein per serve

.

Thats tru. Although Whey maxx is 70% protein per serve, in terms of amount your still getting 24 grams of protein.

On the other hand, Ice whey your getting 32grams of protein. Despite all this the price and serving size of ice whey will not last long in terms of usage as oppose to whey maxx..

I guess their is alot to take into account when purchasing protein products.

it says on the packet. 3 heaped tablespoons per serve. dont worry about protein turning to fat, if you're training regularly then its not an issue. it's only an issue with people who consume a lot of protein but don't work out- i.e their body doesn't need the extra protein and it gets stored as fat
