Few fellas there will

The couch thread provides an endless supply of laughs for me.

Crossfit as a concept is cool, if being well conditioned and lifting mediocre weights is what you want to do. But as you will see mentioned in the couch thread, it's cult-like mentality and poor lift execution (not saying this applies everywhere, but it is pretty prevalent) make it a bit of a joke to me. They've also managed to get off side with a lot of their own experts, forcing them to leave.

Mixing pure strength work with conditioning is actually a great idea for most people without competitive goals of some kind. The idea in itself is a very good one. It's how I prefer to train when I don't have some particular lift I'm after, honestly.

I just have reservations about how some of it is put into practice at times, from exercise technique to their strategy on programming - which seems to be basically a non-existent, just show up and exhaust yourself kind of methodology.

Which would be fine if it weren't for all the claims about beating elite athletes in every sport ever. But that's mainly HQ doing that; the individual boxes seem to vary in quality.

Nice one Nessie!! Obviously I'm a convert myself, I own a CrossFit Club.

I'm not into blogging back and forth on CrossFit programming and training methodology; we're all independant clubs so I can't speak for any other club but my own.

My co-director and I have 27 combined years in the industry. With respect to CrossFit methods and training - we hold certifications in Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics in addition to CF Lvl 1 & 2. We've been training people GPP, outdoor fitness, and a variety of fitness and strength training for years. Our entire coach team are also Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics certified and bring to the table a wealth of industry experience themselves.

One thing I can say for CF methods and Coaching skills is that we can take people from scratch and in very short periods of time they build far superior fitness, skills and technique than many programmes available to the public and athletes of all codes - so don't knock it till you've given it 3 to 6 months yourself. The results speak for themselves.

Folks have different fitness and athletic goals - not everyone is into lifting mass as a "singular" sport!! If you are, CrossFit is not the sport for you...there's no arguement there.

If you're not getting people hurt or teaching bad form, like the usual abortions that pass for power cleans as one example, I don't particularly care to rip on you. I'm not terribly interested in preaching any gospel of exercise; if that's your thing, that's your thing.
