chalk for lifting

thanks for the site, are these chalks very economical? do they last a while and which are better, the solids or the ball? any where else i can buy it in a bigger quantity if needed?

The ball is just a fancy container as Rose said you can just use a plastic bag. Solid or powder is again personal taste although I do find the solid blocks great for just breaking a piece off rather than dealing with masses of powder. One block will last ages like months and months possibly a year! I have no idea where you would buy it in bigger quantities.

If you are desperate and cant get any magnesium carbonate I sometimes grab a stick of blackboard chalk and just rub/draw it onto the bar where I am going to hold the BB. Nothing wrong with it, it works fine only it might look funny if your chalk colour is...PINK(red).

i just bought some from bivuoac's website. im planning on using this chalk manly for deadlift not only on the bar and my hands but on my thighs and shins. do you guys feel that theres less drag when deadlifting if applied on your thighs and shins?

Might pose a slight issue on the thighs as the chalk is used for grip therefore it would it would create drag. Baby powder is what you would put on your things nothing on the shins tho.

i see i thought perhaps on the shins too unfortunately i dont have any knee length socks. are thin cotton socks the right type to be wearing? eg like long school socks?

Knee length socks are just a health issue in competitions blood on the bar, it also depends on the Knurling on your bar as to whether you donate blood or not so socks are so so.

As a matter of interest is the correct form for deadlifts to drag the bar up your legs?

Without trying to sound like a smart arse I have always "lifted" the bar straight up and only time it touches my legs is when it reaches thighes and stand fully erect prior to lowering again away from legs!

well it should make contact with the shins unless your deadlift angle is too obtuse and that way it would drag up unless your hips are rising before the weight moves and in that case you would have lost contact anyway.

The closer the bar is to the body the better the leverage there for the easy you can pull and the bonus the more weight you can lift. When the bar drifts out in front it puts more pressure on your back, and is harder to bring the hips through to lockout.

But there is nothing wrong with what you are doing it all depends on the length of your limbs as to how you lift, some people scrap the shins, me it is not till it gets to my knees.

said it perfectly...for me i have really long arms...so i sit back when i deadlift im not leaning over the bar as much as the average person so theres even greater contact..
