...and all the guys who competed in the Waipu Games this year. Was an awesome sunny northland day and the boys put on a great show in the heavyweight events

It is a real pleasure to watch an event where there a lot of friendly competition and more importantly some heavy things being flung round the park. Jonos grunts kept the crowd amped, Craig the Ozzie battled hard to take the title off 13 or is it now 14 time winner Pat Hellier(sp) but to no avail  Pat was awesome and the technical side of how to win an event like this was clear every time he picked up on the heavy things and flung it across the pitch

Jono was the man when it came to brute force and the crowd were right behind him with every grunt and throw...awesome bro!

The rest of the field was equally as good and big ups to Tom (sorry bro forget the last name) the 18 year old who kept up with some of the big fellas throughout the event which was run over the entire day. 6-7 hours of lifting and throwing and I quote Jono near the end of the event when after winning a 56lb weight for distance throw he turns to the crowd....

"Right! I want be able to talk tomorrow and now I wont be able to walk tomorrow"

Cheers for the awesome day fellas which I filmed most of (will post up some vids when I get the computer to accept the new cannon camera )

WOOKIE POWER!!!

56lb weight for distance throw. Doesnt sound heavy eh but when you want it to move 10-11m its heavy  Gave him a 9.5/10 for the finish

Weight for height throw...again doesnt look to hard but there is some serious effort going in to these throws 8)

Very cool... Steak bro I'm glad you appreciated my efforts. When I'm trying hard I'm really serious and amped, but at the end of the day a big reason why I do what I do is because I want to put on a good show for the crowd. So it's good to hear it's working.

If you guys see me around at events, please come up and say hi, always good to meet people.

I haven't looked at any footage yet, cause I've been staying with friends at Omaha, but I'll try see what my dad took. That vid of Craig doing WFD is hilarious.

Here's a little write up I did for Powerhouse forum....

Hey guys...

139th NZ Highland Games at Waipu-

1st for the 14th consecutive year Pat Hellier- 77pts

2 Craig Reid (Aus)- 62.5

3 Jono Macfarlane- 57

4 Mick Cotterell- 56

5 John McLeod (Sco)- 46.5 from memory

6 Reuben deJong

7 Damian Smuts

8 Craig Read

9 Tom Ingram

10 Matt Rossiter.

I only really woke up after lunch with the sheaf, normally it's the events before lunch I do best at. Completely botched the caber and threw the hammers about as far as I did when I was 17. That's what I get for not training throws! Will need to do a training session before Paeroa on Feb 13.

Reid won the 14lb Sheaf toss at 9metres, missing out at a new record at 11.

I won the 28lb and 56 weight for distance events. Was happy to get the 28 cause I fouled my first 2 throws and had to get a legal throw to stay in the competition, so I just decided to go for it and hit 21.8m or so. I wanted 23m, but can't complain.

Pat won the other 5 events, no surprises there. Even though he was beaten in 3 events, he came second in them and only dropped 3 points over 8 events on his way to a well deserved 14th title.

Next year is the 140th consecutive Games and is apparently going to be 2 day event, the 2nd day I hear including the world team (2 man) championships. Promises to be a cracker.
