Rose: yup I do compound exercise and don’t do any cardio at all. I am trying hard to eat often with smaller portions as you’ve mentioned and my idea of starting this thread regarding Mass gainers is not an excuse to “Work/lifestyle issues” ; I just raised a practical constrain and “ I am organised its just that I am trying to explore things that work for me in this learning curve”

Thanks “ Steak” , “NZPT” for your constructive advice ........

Thanks guys.... I will probably increase my intake of food and see if that helps!post-6536-14166820276484_thumb.jpg

Yeah I get that. But, re contraints, honestly, the only constraint is an ability to think outside the square. If you can pack a shake and shaker to take somewhere, you can pack food. Get a thermos. Get a cooler bag or a small chilly bin lunchbox thing. Get used to eating things cold. Get used to prepping food in advance. Get in the habit of taking food everywhere if you can't afford to buy it on the go. Yeah it's a pain in the arse at times. But mass gainer shakes aren't going to help you pack on mass anything like real food. You want to get big? Eat food  Good luck :)

I voted Mutant Mass, but I have only tried that, out of the 3 listed. When you look at the serving sizes, and amount of servings per tub, mass gainers can be expensive, when you consider the frequency of re-purchase.

Just load up a WPC with bananas, oats and cream, if you want to load it up.

Food is key Deepmen15. Perhaps you should throw away the strict regime you have, and just eat heaps of tuna and noodles? I don't see enough protein from meat in your diet.

You may benefit from taking your protein shakes an hour before, and just after your workouts, on training days.

How old are you? This may also be a factor.

What about sleep? How much are you getting?

Good commonsense stuff as usual Steak, SM, Rose & PMan.

I always found it amusing when people told me they couldn't gain weight no matter how much they eat, and that they were 'big eaters' already. However I learnt the other day it's all a sliding scale, and that I too have been guilty of thinking I eat big!

In Brisbane the other week I had the fortunate experience of having a few breakfasts, lunches & dinners with the 2009 Worlds Strongest Man (Zydrunas Savickas), some of the American Pro Strongmen (Travis Ortmayer, Van Hatfield & Andy Vincent) and Estonia's Strongest Man (Rauno Heinla). Most of these guys are 6'4" and between 140 - 180kg, although Rauno is a lot shorter and had downsized to around 115kg. None of these guys would stand on stage as BBers but the topic here is bulking right, and these guys had serious muscle mass (I think big Z has 28" arms, and Vans traps & Travis' back belong on Belgian Blue cattle! ).

Anyway a typical breakfast was 8-10 whole poached/scrambled eggs, 4 pieces of toast, around 6 pieces of bacon, a flavoured milk and a powerade. After finishing this many of the guys grabbed an ice cream - Rauno always had two!

Nickoli (NZL Strongest Man 2008-2009) has been known to eat a lot, taking his body weight from 85kg (when running) to 130kg (and from 100kg - 130kg in last 4 years). He recalled to me one dinner with the Pros when he couldn't keep up and was so full he felt sick. He was then amazed when most of the guys did it all again two hours later!

Anyway was a timely reality check that anyone can eat enough to gain weight. Funny thing was I didn't see anyone using much in the way of supplements, and some actually gave away the stuff they were given as promo, maybe due to travel restrictions? I only recall one of the guys mentioning he used a lot of supplements on a regular basis.

I have tried True mass and Mutant Mass.

I personally like True mass for its flavour and mixing, Mutant mass can get gluggy and tastes really sweet.

I have gone back to Mutant mass though because of price.

per serving mutant is 1000 calories and about 50 grams or protien, its a serious gainer, and perfect for post workout gains

Like you i struggled to put on weight, i am pretty active.

I shut down my cardio for 3 months and upped my calories to 3000 plus a day non workout and 4000 plus day on workout days.

I went from 80kg's to 89kg in 3 months.

I found it really hard to continue eating so much so often, shakes made it easier, but still hard.

From personal experience and what the good folk on here have told you, eat more, be it real food, shakes, whateva, eat 6 meals a day and weigh yourself often to see what effect its having, still not gaining? then eat even more.

Weight is all about energy in vs energy out. Eat more than you burn and hey presto.

This recipe has been posted up before but I will put it up again.

Greek Mass Shake.

40gms whey

40gms oats

1 banana

1 tub of yoghurt

1tbsp extra virgin olive oil

250mls milk

Put it all in a blender and away you go. :)

You still wont get bigger if youre not eating enough though.

Mutant Mass could be the cheapest thing on earth but food would still be superior.

Mutant Mass = Mediocrity

That's heresy  .... on these popular 21st century grounds

a. Can all those guys in white lab coats be wrong;

b. It's more expensive, it MUST be better;

c. If Beef is so good for you, why don't they take out a four-page spread in Flex Magazine?

Artificially-extracted substances taken in isolation at great cost FTW ! :pfft:

if your not yet accustomed to big eating, a bag of mutant mass can help. im not saying food isnt better, cos it is. but when your trying to initially eat like a mofo, it can and does take time to learn the eating. i used a bag of m.mass, helped me keep cals high enough while i figured out how to get my cals in cleanly. so it does have a place, just dont rely on it.

"The results? If you add just 1 serving of MUTANT MASS per day to your routine, you can add up to 2.2 Kgs of fat free muscle in just the next 14 days, increase your bench press by 4.45 - 9 Kgs and boost your chest size by 2.5 centimeters (1"). That's not rocket science – that's just MUTANT MASS doing its' amazing job."

what a load of shit

come on ppl, are you that dense? ALL supps have outlandish claims on them - its simply up to you to judge your own results. Example - gaspari superpump - awesome supp, used by many! but if you read the tub, it has similarly unrealistic claims. but its still a good supp.

could i have done it with food? yes

would it have been cheaper with food? yes

would i use it again? no

but it DOES have a place, not everyone can go straight into eating twice what they did on a 'normal' diet.

and also, i didnt think the op was expecting to have the m.mass claims realised, he just wanted to rate it as amass gain powder. theres an old thread. (long one) in the supp reviews. look it up mate.
