Re whey being whey, I'd prefer mine came from hormone-free cows.

Just me being curious about the state of the dairy industry in this country, how realistic a prospect is that?

You'd hope that Fonterra would make their whey from local products, unlike eg Dymatize or ON which are imported, but...

I know this one. A New Zealand company called Naturalac Nutrition Ltd made and sold Horleys branded sports nutrition and dietary supplements until maybe ah I forget. Then it was sold to Kiwi Co-operative Dairies Limited. They became Fonterra. As soon as the Fonterra management team was in place they sold off all the crappy parts of Fonterra. Horelys was one of the first dogs they kicked out the door.

A Malaysian outfit called Etika International Holdings bought Horleys from Fonterra in 2006. They are one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of sweetened condensed milk. And they are listed on the Singapore stock exchange.

Etika is controlled by a guy called Datuk Jaya J.B. Tan, the former executive chairman of Pengkalen Holdings. Those guys have rebranded Horelys stuff over the last few years. Some Horleys products you can’t buy here because they are only made for the Malaysian market.

You are right Rose, they do buy some of their raw materials from Fonterra but most of it comes from China like all the whey that EAS uses.

A year or so back all the supplement brands in New Zealand that use Chinese dairy products had to give a representative product sample for melamine testing. Horelys submitted their mass gainer for testing.

LOL at kill yourself with food. Bloody hell

I nearly killed myself with beer... working a forklift in a bottle-store, dropped a 1-tonne pallet of beer off the truck. Managed to dodge the falling bottles, didn't dodge the angry boss

But Rose and Pman are right - sure, you can kill yourself with food, but only the WRONG food. Make the right choices, learn what works for you, and do that.

its so hard to eat all that food... just gives you that extra calorie boost so you don't have to kill yourself with food.

Why not choose calorie dense food then?

It's not hard to "eat all that food". That's an utterly retarded thing to say Mr 'New member'. You train yourself to eat just like you train your muscles. 'Eating big' is learnt just like anything else.

If you want to put on muscle you really have to accept the fact that you're going to have to eat and will put on some fat. If you try to do it eating squeaky clean or with mass gainers, your gains will be incredibly slow. So slow you might as well not bother. If you do get gains, they're newbie gains, and just think (kick yourself!) how much better they'd have been if you'd eaten

If you must drink your calories, milk is superior to a powdered mass gainer. At least milk is a complete food. Not powdered sugar with a whole load of other shit added to it to make it appear more like food. Fail.

Buy a thermos and milk instantly becomes transportable.

Jeez, ripping off Pman's idea, just chuck olive oil on and in everything.

LOL at kill yourself with food. Bloody hell  Here, have a gun.

I think i worded it abit wrong.. not literally kill yourself but like force feeding.. gets old fast.. sure i am eating my same bulking diet but the mass gainer helps me in the aspect of just a change up.. something different.. for example i only have two scoops a day in the afternoon which is 1/2 of a serving, it can't be that bad.

if your trying to gain a bit of size why only 1/2 a serve...mix a full serve in some milk and slug it back. Have one immediately post training too if your not already.

I question why anyone who opts for a mass gainer over food,

It's just insanity

over food - agree

in addition to food or post workout then I think there is a place for it..whatchu fink?

yes yes.... Im keeping in mind there are other/better alternatives like food for those purposes too :D

I think you answered your own question. If there are "better alternatives" why would you waste time and money on inferior options?

cos I like winding you up

it was more of a "what if" question

"what if" you werent suitably educated to scoff back 2-3 precooked spuds and nash away on on some chook as soon as you could after training but found it convenient to slug away on your "mass gainer or protein" shake. Im hazarding a guess that this would be the norm for most as it is for me (in fact Im habitually adding to/pimping my post training supplementary nutrition to suit my own goals for masstastic obesiety)

would you condone its use then?
