Hi guys,

I've joined this forum a while back, and have been reading posts. Now I've finally decided to say something LOL.

My primary goals are to gain lean muscle mainly on my upper body and develop upper body strength while losing those love handles :pfft:

Currently I go to the gym 3-4 days and have a day rest.

My workout days consist of:

Day 1: Chest and Triceps

Day 2: Biceps and Back

Day 3: Legs

Day 4: Shoulders and traps

My main concern at the moment is my proportionality, for example: I can only bench about 50-60kgs (depending on the number of reps and sets) and I can leg press 120-140. Is this about the right ratio of leg against Chest in terms of strength?

I also have another problem (well I think its a problem anyway) with my legs.. I think they're much larger in comparison to my Upper body, and to be honest I would rather have a larger upper body than a large lower body. Which is why I'm trying not to do my legs. Would you guys think this would be the best way to go about this problem?

By the way I'm 18

My height: 182cm

Weight: 84kg

and yeah I think that pretty much sums it up.

Thanks :D

Welcome

Post a pic so we can see if your have fat legs! hahaha

too many guys all want to build big upper bodies but you need to keep in proportion.

Working legs with compound exercises will be of great benefit

as you would have read

Eat well

train hard

rest plenty

and it will come

otherwise......

Hey Routec. Glad you finally decided to break your silence. Welcome!

Your bench does seem a little light, but then it's hard to compare with leg press, as there are so many different leg press machines. Do you do squats? That's a better comparison. Bear in mind that we all have some parts that are stronger than others. We just have to bring the lagging ones up to speed.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I can't find my cable link for my cam so I can't post any pics atm.. but will do asap.

As for the Squats. After a few trials, I still couldn't get the technique right, so I stopped doing it as I'm a bit worried that I might injure myself.

The Leg Press machine I used is the one where u sit low almost on the ground and push upwards at a 45 degree angle.. I don't know what it is called exactly but I think it's a really common machine in all gyms.

I feel that I'm very weak with benching and would like to improve on it :( .

Today when I went to the gym:

I started with a 50kg 10 reps

2 set: 55kg 10 reps

3 set 57.5kg 8 reps

4 set 60kg 6 reps

Do you guys think that this is a good way to build strength?

Of course I do other exercises including: incline bench press on a smith machine, dumbbell fly incline, incline press machine (I don't know what this one is called, but it's one where you stack on weights on both sides and has a similar motion to an incline dumbbell press), peck dec machine, incline dumbbell press.

Thanks in Advance

Your bench will improve with time, just keep working on it and every few weeks go a little heavier with a spotter and put in the odd 4-6 rep set. It can be as much mental as physical and you may find some added strength with the confidence that someone is there to save your butt, I also find the odd week on the smith machine can help as you concentrate on the pressing movement vs. maintaining stability.

Just stick at it, as the line goes "build it and they will come"
