You know how whey is fast absorbing protein... What's the actual advantage of this, since most of your muscle rebuilding happens when your asleep??

If this is the case then surely a slower absorbing protein source is just as effective after your workout, as your actual mucscle rebuilding doesn't happen until you're asleep

so unless you go to the gym right before you go to sleep, there's no advantage?

do you see where i'm getting at?

Its so you can absorb it into your body. its always healing just moreso when sleeping. You must have noticed it when you get cut etc? you still heal during the day.

Digesting food isnt healing, its feeding your body.

ohhhh okay so theoretically the quicker the protein gets absorbed the more muscle you will gain?

so milk is slower absorbing? i drink a lot of milk every day, probably 1L. Is this just a waste of milk, since it only constitutes slow-absorbing protein?

Protein is protein, don't sweat the small stuff. There have been plenty of shredded guys at 220lb plus that lived on milk!

Milk's great to grow on, lots of protein (trim/calcitrim), and a bunch of carbs to boot. A lot of hardgainers add trim milk powder to their whey protein to get more for their money - lasts longer and higher in calories.

The main issue people raise re: absorbtion rates is post workout. Theory is quicker absorbed protein will be more beneficial to recovery and growth. Doubt much solid evidence to either support or refute the claim though?

Train & have protein afterwards. If you want to have whey & water go for it. If you would rather drink a 2L choclate milk go hard. Either way your onto a winner (if you get fat fast ditch the choclate milk! ).

Yeah same. 50 grams of Eat Me mixed with water for drinking at the gym when I finish. At home I mix it with milk. I never take milk to the gym. Can't stand warm milk. And months back a milk protein shake spilt in my gym bag. Not good :( So now it's water only in the bag.

This is what scientists used to think, but they now know that the body does the vast majority of its growth and healing during the day (as per ordys comment). A few hours after you fall asleep the body actually starts to go catabolic (breaking down muscle) and this is why your bodys cortisol levels are so high in the morning as you have starved all night. This of course is why breakfast is so important.

Scientists are now coming up with new theories as to why we have to sleep such as our brains need the time to organize and sort the relevant information of the day. And other scientists are saying are it is a evolutionary adaption to keep us in our caves at night to protect us from saber tooth tigers ect as we dont have the tools (poor night vision, crap sense of smell) to be wandering around in the dark.

Dunno about others that mix their shakes before the gym, but I just bring the shaker to the gym with powder in it, and add water when I'm finished my workout at the fountain/from my water bottle. I use eatme unflavoured isolate, and add a little Horleys Ice (strawberry) while I still have some for a bit of flavour.

I also have a shake before I leave for the gym from work (I'm within 5mins walk or so from the gym though) where Milk is an option, but I always have it with water. No real reason!

Unless you're adding solids that you need to blend/mash, I can't see why you'd pre mix rather than just doing it with water at the gym? :-s Unless I'm missing something, or you can't do without the milk, but meh each to their own I guess! :)

I have milk with my Casein shake at night, it's great with water as well, but tastes like Ice Cream if I blend a little ice in with the milk/choc casein powder. Mmmmm... =P~ Peanut slab ice cream if I add a little peanut butter to it as well (making me crave it now)

Personally I think it would be fucken fantastic. It pisses me off that I have to waste so much of my life sleeping. Think how much more we could achieve if we didn't need to sleep.
