Just a few q's

Hey there guys, just found this forum last night - I'm 15 etc etc but won't go into that here.

Just have a few questions:

I eat healthily etc and I was wondering if salt is a big no-no? I can eat chicken etc without it but it really improves the taste for me. As far as I know salt doesn't turn into fat but I could be wrong?

Also, I am looking for some protein bars to have for morning tea as I can't really get anything else for that time. I have just been having about 2 or 3 a week and they definately hit the pocket hard.. around $4+ each from supermarket. If I buy more at once from a health shop will it be considerably cheaper or around the same price?

Anyways, thanks in advance - if I find any other q's i'll post here.

Hi SFK, and welcome. :)

Salt's not really a no-no at all. In fact, if you're really active and sweating a lot, you need to make sure that your salt intake is increased. It doesn't turn into fat; it may make you hold a little more water under the skin, but unless you're about to step into a bodybuilding show tomorrow, it's unlikely to make any noticeable difference.

As for the protein bars, I'd suggest saving them for special occasions only. They usually don't have enough protein, and are high in sugar or artificial sweeteners. Try making up a protein shake in the morning before you leave. You'll get more protein, it's better for you, and I think you'll find it works out much cheaper (especially if you buy it in the large containers). :)

Thanks for replies guys, - good to hear abuout salt ;P

Ok - well today will be my last protein bar I guess

I've tried tuna sandwiches in the past and hated the taste - are there any techniques to make them a bit more tasty? or should I just wait for it to grow on me?

Also - my main goal is to lose some fat and gain more muscle before I goto Aussie in the hols, lately I usually have snacks of fruit.. i'll generally have like an apple after school then maybe some watermelon and then maybe another piece of fruit - should I cut back on these? I generally have these when I want something sweet to eat.

And one last thing.. For brekkie I usually have a protein shake in skim milk, 3 weetbix in skim milk with a chopped banana, is that too many carbs? As I am really looking to lose some fat aswell at gain muss.

Cheers again,

sfk.

Tuna will never grow on you if you dont like it. I just force it down when I do have it, some people will try to mix it in with other stuff. Open a can and just force it down it gets bearable but never enjoyable.

i say dont bother trying to make it taste good. it will never taste good. but you eat it cus you have 2

fruit has a bunch of sugar in it i think.instead of snacking after school you should just have another little meal in there. eg oats and tuna

Not quite as portable as a tuna sandwich, but...

Mix your tuna with a tomato-based pasta sauce. Put a few slices of cheese on top, and nuke to melt the cheese. This is not only edible, it's actually nice! :D

that bloody sounds nice nxt time i go shoppin im gonna try it

I just mix my tuna with water & drink it. Don't taste a thing.

lol, NO WAY!, i thought i was the only one who did this. It all started because when i had plain tuna (no sauses etc) it was so damn dry, so i started puting the tuna in my mouth and having a drink of water to get it down, then one day i just tiped the whole damn glass into the tuna can, mixed it up and drunk it, it is a good alternative.
