just wondering how you guys keep your sodium intake down while eating heaps of food... you're not supposed to have more than 2.5g of sodium per day, but food like bread, fish and baked beans have heaps of sodium
I've been going to the gym for two years and have put on 25kg by eating nothing out of the ordinary.. lots of bread, weetbix, eggs, etc.

Maybe you need to start worrying about it yourself, rather than worrying about whether others are worrying about it.

Choose no added salt/low salt options when shopping if it's a concern for you.

  • 3 months later...
if people are going to split hairs over their sodium intake then they should stay away from bodybuilding in the first place.

interesting .... why would you say that?

Yeah I wondered why too. If anything, I reckon lots of bodybuilders may be more aware to check the sodium content of food, whereas general public are (generally) pretty blasé about the whole thing. Trap here is the labelling and loopholes in the laws that make it possible for manufacturers to get away with shit.

a lot of staple bodybuilding foods such as bread, fish, eggs and milk are all relatively high in sodium

say you eat 6 slices of bread, 1L milk, 5 eggs, and 1 can of fish in one day you're looking at 1800+ mg of sodium

just my 2c

...you're not supposed to have more than 2.5g of sodium per day,...

Someone who is training hard shouldn't have a problem consuming slightly more sodium. It is essential and especially so if one is working hard. If you sit on your butt all day you'd have problems digesting increased protein and carbs also.
