whey is such a Fad.. imagine how much money those supplement companies are making....

The guy's already bought it. Maybe you should go round to his house and make him throw it out?

Not one of you has justified why a 14 year old shouldn't have whey protein. It's all emotional bleating about poor defenseless children. I'm glad you people aren't my parents! :P

Everything is a fucken fad. That's not what the original query was about. Respond intelligently [MOD EDIT: No abusive comments, please]

I feel sorry for the original poster! Useless answers since ages ago!

and gyms arent a fad. they're a means of getting fit and staying healthy

protein powder is not beneficial for your health so whats your point?

Kernzzi,

I think the point you're missing is while you are probably correct in stating "protein powder is not beneficial for your health", it is also likely to be equally true that "protein powder is not detrimental to your health".

At the end of the day whey is just another type of food, as much as yoghurt or pastuerised milk is.

It happens to be cheap & convenient so people use it to raise their dietary intake. If you are fighting an anti-dairy or anti-whey crusade you are on a hiding to nothing in this forum!

As for mercury, I'm sure somethings going to kill me long before the heavy metal effects of Hg kick in!

Whey Protein powder is good for your health. There's so much more to whey than just the protein in it hence why it has become so popular over the last two decades (I'm not sure if that counts as a fad). Perhaps you should do a little research into whey protein microfractions - lactoferrin, bovine serum albumin, immunoglobulins, alphalactalbumin, lactoperoxidase, lysozyme etc etc. Once you have the grasp of those hopefully you will change your opinion.

There are some negatives to whey for some individuals however the positives far outweigh the negatives for the majority of the population.

Protein isn't going to kill him, it's a food supplement.

Too much protein can stuff up your kidney if your body is not using up the protein for energy or building tissue. Flushing out the wasted protein puts all of stress on the kidney. Train hard and keep water intake high 3L - 4L per day and you should be okay.

Myth!

The high protein kidney damage line isn't valid, unless you have a pre-existing renal disorder.

dude, your original post about your postworkout shake, thats a heap of protein!! the general concensus is that you want protein digested as soon as possible after training, and whey is the best. most people have whey in water - though some argue with milk.

typically most peeps go for 40-50grams postworkout protein, in a food source that will digest fast. example - a meal of chicken after your train wont actually give your body protein until a few hours after digesting, and you wanna resupply your blood levels of aminos asap post-train.

wheras whey and water will be absorbed in say 1/2 hour. So if budget allows bro, get some whey man. your body will love you for it...
