bro 14 is a bit young to be worrying about that sort of thing aye.. i would wait a few years before you've fully developed otherwise you could do serious harm to yourself

I disagree. While I'm reluctant to suggest how much protein a 14 year old should be having, 14 is not too young to be starting with nutrition as you mean to continue on with. Protein isn't going to kill him, it's a food supplement.

As usual you make sense Mother Rose IMO. 14 is the right time to learn how to eat. By that I mean small meals at regular intervals (say 3 hourly) throughout the day and each with a serve of protein and a serve of carbs. And of course lots of fruit and vegetables. A serve of protein is probably about 30-40 grams and could include a protein shake, a chicken breast or a steak.

This isn't about bodybuilding. It's about common sense nutrition.

14 yrs old is way too young to even think of taking nutritional supplement for the purposes of bodybuilding. I'm surprised some people think it's good advice.

Dude, you're young and still growing. Learn to eat well and you will be fine, don't buy into the nutritional supplement debate, it's way too early, you're only a child!

yeah but don;t you agree that 14 is too young to start at the gym? at that age you should only to free weight exercises unless you want to stunt your growth and/or f@#k up your back

Your still growing taller till your about 20 arnt you?

I was nearly full height at 14, just skinny as hell. Wish i started eating properly and going to the gym then. Pretty sure all the Rugby team does?

Protein shakes are just another form of food, for other supplements if its a respectable brand it would have warnings about taking it if under 18 anyway.

Then again at 14 i couldnt afford shite =p so i wouldnt have been buying anything anyway.

I'm with Steak - disagree! 14 or so is a good time to learn how to eat healthy, make smart choices about food, and establish a healthy exercise regime. Note that there's a world of difference between "healthy" and "obsessive"... a balanced perspective including nutrition and safe training advice.

Anyone who wants to become more muscular and leaner really needs to understand simple nutrition facts, as Rose and others have said.

For the same reason, 14's a good age to start learning how to lift safely. Sure, there's the same old risk of a brain explosion leading to bad form, stupid lifting and injuries, but you never grow out of that

Dude, whey is classified as FOOD. No one was advocating supplement use.

whey is such a Fad.. imagine how much money those supplement companies are making....

Protein powders are just a fad. You don't need protein powder. You'll get all the protein you need just from eating 8 cans of tuna a day, mmmm yummy tuna. 56 cans a week - how much does that cost?

that's not my point. the whole protein thing is ridiculous.. your body can only cope with so much protein.. the rest is useless. at least with tuna you're getting omega3 as well. and i guarantee tuna has more protein for money than protein powder does

Lmao - good summary Flex!

Whey is dirt cheap & quick (although I don't think anyone here is recommending it as a regular meat/meal replacement!).

I eat Tuna every day (mostly 2 cans/day over last 3 years), but I hate that shit, especially the budget ones which seem to have scales in!

It's a means to an end but two cans a day is my limit, the rest is whey, chicken & steak (and venison & salmon when I get the chance!) as well as the protein in my carb sources.

2 cans a day?! you're aware of the mercury in tuna right?
