I won't start it for fear of being critisized and told I'm just an old school idiot

I dare you, "old guy" :pfft: You know you want to

Funny how a lot of people seem to have got all uptight about this topic?

Cool thread. I'm kinda surprised that some people have missed the overall point of your original post though.

... re: a similar thread about training, now that would be a blinder! I have a very good anecdote about this, will share it if the thread ever arises! I won't start it for fear of being critisized and told I'm just an old school idiot

The jibe at the end re: Kitchen Manager was a cheap shot bro,

but a troll would not be complete without a good jibe, and what I told the dietetic crowd when i was asked why i wasnt becoming one...

but not applicable if aimed at me (she's private practice & specialises in Sports Nutrition (mainly NZRFU & Academy), bariatric surgery stuff as well as the usual weight loss/gain stuff. Is also looking at doing further work in the allergy/intollerance areas, which means more study  ).

everything is more study

but going with the following questions angle, how does the wife feel that the NZRFU employ(ed) a non-profession to provide nutritional support to the all blacks, as well as becoming a NZRU High Performance Nutritionist? sure he was a dual major Nutrition and PhysEd, but hey, non profession

Before you think I was having a crack at nutrtionists for being a "non profession" (hard to if you read my later posts) I'll clarify that I'm technically in a non profession too (was in the teaching profession, but had to be a non-professional to near double my salary :pfft: ).

Was just clarifying a point.

It is a profession, as much as an profession as dietitian, teacher, whatever.

Anyway that aside, can't wait to hear some of the relevant stuff you've come across in your research?

having to walk downstairs to get coffee gives you a moderate level of daily activity

Just as an aside I am aware of another sports nutritionist starting a masters research project on protein role in strength training - that will be of interest to me & others no doubt.

Nate

unfortunately, the time frame within a masters project is hardly enough to do it justice. Never mind most of the setup of uni's throughout NZ are not overly great for resistance training research.

I am just glad my five years of undergrad and postgraduate research

Just thinking about this more cycomiko,

What are your thoughts on the fact you've done five years of hard slog at tertiary level, (not to mention the cost, $40+K I'm guessing and 5 years lost earning ability), and that anyone can then do a two week course (or do nothing at all) and call themselves a nutritionist and earn what you can? (funded positions where education is recognised aside).

No worse than a lot of other courses througout the world that allows people to be a 'doctor' or whatnot...

But, the fun part about it is I can become something they cannot. A Registered Nutritionist. Something that provides a higher level of clout than they can get.

But dont worry, education is not the limiting factor to income, Bill Gates is a great example of that. But, the two week course person would not even make it through the CV screening stage with my employer.

Personally I reckon it's shithouse!

And to be fair an unscrupulous person trading as a nutritionist could probably earn more than a well educated one - wildly fabulous claims seem to attract people willing to part with their money much moreso than scientifically valid nutritional advice. Snakeoil anyone?!

Nate

Then there are the highly qualified ones making the same favulous claims to attract people. Even some dietitians.

Lots of space taken up with rebuttal, nothing of any value for most though. A shame, I'm sure you've got something of value (or references to) to share after 5 years human nutrition? Unless petty bickering is more your cup of tea?

No issues re: GK's appointment, although it's now KD I believe? One pro of employing a nutritionist over a dietitian is that he could endorse Weetbix! Dititians can't endorse products/supplements under their code of ethics (a bit archaic in my humble opinion!). But thems the breaks when you're bound to a recognised Professional Body (like Teachers, Accountants etc). As discussed earlier nutritionist's don't have to be a member of anything to practice (I'm sure some organisation attempts to do this, as they do for HR practitioners with HRINZ. Just an observation, not a judgement).
