Personally watching someone doing dumbell benchpress standing up took the cake for me

..anyone else?

Ummmmm, how does that work? Dumbell bechpress "standing up"...I'm trying to create a mental image, but I can't get it!

Anyway the other thing to note before you see other people's techniques as funny or wrong is that there could be a reason, good or bad.

Tricep pushdowns standing on a Bosu ball.

Pretty much anything on a Bosu ball for that matter.

I saw one guy put a rolled-up towel in between in client's knees on shallow leg presses. Presumably that's a cue to keep "knees in", or in other words, he wants his client injured and weak.

Sissy pad on front squats. Front squats that were high and unstable anyway.

I'm sure this list will fill up fast if I keep thinking about it.

The benefits of gym

Balancing of the body is an important part of our physical conditioning, irrespective of age, or sports participation. Attending a gymnasium or setting up a strength circuit is one way to approach this problem. If you don't use it you lose it, so they say!

Unless we can play squash using both our arms/hands it is impossible to develop equal strength on both the left hand and right hand sides of the body.

In fact when I was on court a lot coaching (I am right handed) the only way to save my muscle tension was to use my left hand whenever possible. The methods for the coaching of the strokes definitely work! Wooh! However, there was limited power in the shots, proving the strength was not there.

Playing with the opposite hand is a fun thing to do. It is good therapy - pity about the volleying, it was a disaster for me

.

Give it a try, you will now be more sympathetic towards your child's learning! Be patient.

There are many advantages in good muscle/body balance and muscle strength, ie:

Prevention of injury.

The strength in the muscles will support the joints.

Repetitive movements in sport can cause RSI.

Over time the predominant side of the body tends to pull the spine and hips out of alignment causing unnecessary wear and tear on the joints.

Enhances performance.

Makes you feel good.

Assists maintain body weight, and good health.

Adds variety to the exercise regime.

If a gymnasium is not financially viable, and convenient, it is possible to set up a strength circuit at home or at the squash courts, using your own body as the tool, without the fancy equipment.

A skipping rope, a step-up, hand weights, and the like will add a few more stations to the workout.

Maybe get your playing partner to join in and make it more competitive.

Try it! Tell us about it.

I've done some weird exercises recommended by my physio to aid recovery after accidents. Now when I see someone cranking out reps on the micro dumbells or stretching themselves on the swiss ball I think poor buggar. Must be doing rehab.

Some stretches are pretty funny

Saw some guy at my gym doing a back stretch where you're on all fours and arch your back up, then arch your back down and stick your bum out. looks like erm yeh.... :pfft:

It's called a cat-camel. I do them, really nice for the lower back.

Squats on the calf raise are pretty funny to watch.

I've seen safety squat bar lunges on a treadmill. But it was a legit strong guy taking the mick.

Funniest I've seen done seriously was a 60yr old guy doing... partial sumo deadlifts (upper knee to just short of lockout) done with 60kg for sets of 20 at like a rep a second. Wide stance, putting alot of emphasis on pushing his hips through. It looked wrong...

This is not a funny exercise story but it is along those lines and I wana rant. It is so annoying when the "instructors" and "personal trainers" at my gym think they have come up with a "new" ab exercise or something and start putting the same one in everyones programmes!! It so annoying. At the moment they seem to give every one this one that you do on the bench that rests on the ladder (don't ask me what it is i don't know) and it uses a medicine ball. Pisses me off coz all the people in the gym are trying to use the one same benchy thing and the same medicine ball (there are a few) and do the same lamo exercise. You think they could mix it up a bit.

Or that they might know more than one ab exercise to give the newbs so they're not all standing there with confused looks on their faces when they machine that is next on their list is busy and they don't know if its ok to go on to the next one and come back later. Oh no what if they have to do the exercises in a different fucking order. FAAAAAAAAAAARRRRKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Back to the so called personal trainers why the hell do they give that same exercise to the old ladies as they do to the young guys. Its not even that gooder exercise coz everyone does it wrong so it isn't effective!!

My gym is useless.

Anyways sorry to interrupt I will let you get back to your funny exercises :shifty:

Na Peach, I just recently converted to Sky, and loving it. At 1.5 hrs per day, I enjoy going to the gym, at 8 hrs a day, it would just end up being like any other prison, oops I mean workplace.

Oh i see. Yeh there is not a lot of choice for gyms up here. I think at some stage I have been a member of them all. Except curves  I think at the moment I'm a member of two gyms lol. Maybe I'm just a grumpy bitch and need to cut them some slack. But honestly what other industry do people pay for advice and it is completely acceptable for someone who knows jack shit to pretend they are fully qualified to give such advice?? (lol there probably is a few out there but Im in a pissy mood)
