I'm not a big fan, and normally find football about as exciting as watching paint dry, but it was a very exciting game. Our goalie was awesome and he did a couple of excellent saves that kept our 1-0 lead through til the end of the game and got us through. That's my inexpert opinion!!

Same here but I found myself jumping around in the last 4 minutes

It's nice that we're giving another sport some attention too (No offence to rugby or anything)

Nothing like thrashing the big guns of world soccer like Fiji,Vanuatu and Bahrain to qualify to take on the best.

Hopefully we won`t end up celebrating getting within 8 goals of the other teams in our pool.

Hey we've come close against Brazil a couple of times. Don't write them off just yet. For such a small country we're doing well to be where we are atm.

Coming close is a bit of a stretch - last game we lost 4 - 0 (which to be fair is a good result for us).

I was at the game and it was an amazing atmosphere - nothing like any rugby match I've ever been to. All Whites played out of their skins; every single one of them were passionately committed to winning that match. Congratulations - it was well deserved. Will look forward to South Africa!

We may be a small country and the All Whites have given some of the top soccer sides in the world a good run for there money like Brazil and thought that was pretty going for the All Whites when they lost 4-0 against Brazil

....I suppose thats good if you are used to celebrating mediocrity....4-0 on paper dosent sound that fantastic to me. I saw the game and Brazil toyed with NZ and turned up the heat when they needed to and popped another goal in.

....never mind I`ll let NZ have their moment.

I remember Portugal celebrating in the rugby world cup when they kept the all blacks to 80 points.

I could never understand these coaches who congratulated people who lost.

Agreed, they got a super easy road to qualify, and there is no chance at all that they will get a result in a single game. Sport is about winning, if your not first your a loser.

I disagree - success can be relative. A draw against Wales last year and a tight loss to Italy this year were two results to be celebrated. Compared to the levels of support that NZ Football receives (financially & from the public) in relation to other footballing nations, I think the results against Brazil, Wales and Italy can be considered a success.

Judging from our other results over the past few years i think that getting a result is well within our reach - especially if the draw is favorable towards us.

Thats a very narrow minded view of sport don't you think?

Great night for NZ Football, really proud of all the boys and coaching staff!

27 years is a long wait, I know 82' is what got me into footy,

One of the best All Whites performances of all time, what a magic evening!

Still getting a bit chocked up watching the replays of the goals and post match celebrations, there will be some deservedly heavy heads amongst the lads today!

Yeh it is pretty narrow minded, but to be honest thats the view I have on most things in life, if you do something you should strive to be the best not just better than most.

Oh I completely agree with you there - there is no point in doing something half-assed.

I just think that credit should be give where credit is due - win or lose.

Congrats to the all whites for making it through - this coming from an Australian, no not taking the piss :pfft: Hopefully this will start to lift the profile of soccer in NZ, because it isn't all about rugby - there are others sports that deserve the same support and attention from the media.
