2009 IFBB Junior & Masters World Champs

Brian McFarlane (40+) and Peter Hunt (50+) are heading off to Poland this week to represent NZ at the IFBB Junior & Masters World Champs.

Peter finished 5th in the Masters 50+ class at last year's World Champs, automatically qualifying him for this year's event. Brian won the NZFBB North Island Overall title in June, and is a past NZFBB National Overall Champ (2002) and IFBB World Amateur Champs representative.

I'm sure Brian and Peter will do very well - continuing on from Peter's top performance last year, and of course Jo Stewart's incredible performances at this event in 2006 (3rd Masters Women) and 2007 (Masters Women's World Champion)! Good luck, guys!! \:D/

Did they get funding to go overseas this year?

Did they get funding to go overseas this year?

Yes, Nate - they both got funding, as did Daniel and Supry to go to the recent IFBB Men's World Champs.

It's nice to have funds again to help our elite competitors, as well as financially supporting approx 20 selected regional event competitors (between $200 and $250 each) to attend this year's Nationals.

So Steve Orten can compete next year and the year after than. Nice one.
Yes, indeed - two more years available for Steve .. assuming he is keen to go, and is selected (which would surely be a certainly considering his incredible physique for such a young fella!).

That's great, good to see this again! Long may it continue.

Again good stuff, was some comment in another thread last week re: competitors not having been paid the $250 from the Nationals? Has this been sorted? (I'm not stirring MT, just with things the way the have been in the past & the recent Exec decision blunder it's good to remain transparent on these matters  ).

Good question, Nate. Yes, some competitors are yet to receive their subsidy. This is simply due to the fact that the both NZFBB cheque book signatories are out of the country at the moment, but these payments will be made in the next week or so. Ideally all payments were scheduled to be available at Nationals, but this got overlooked due to the frantic last-minute setting up of the event.

So, the remaining payments will definitely be made, albeit a month or so late!

MasterTel, I have a couple of clients competing next year in NABBA shows. What is the current situation with NABBA members competing in NZFBB? Do you know if they can chop and change between federations without receiving a fine of sorts?
Currently, anyone can join the NZFBB by paying $45 for a 12 month membership. This membership will lapse after 12 months, or if they compete for another organisation during that time. It is only an issue if they do compete elsewhere and want to do another NZFBB show within that 12 month period i.e. they need to pay $45 to rejoin (for a further 12 months from that date) on top of their event entry fee ($25 for a regional show).

We have an Exec meeting in the next 2 weeks, and I intend raising this issue to see if there is any way around this strict IFBB requirement.

Oh ok thanks for that. Yeah that would be great if the entry requirements were less strict, as I have clients in NABBA that would compete in both federations if they could do so easily. Once they get into shape and start winning or placing then they want to try hold thier condition and enter as many shows as possible, they are not really fussed for what federation, they just want to get back up on stage.

Congratulations to our two representatives who are now on their way home from Poland:

Brian McFarlane - 12th in the Masters Men 40+

Peter Hunt - 8th in the Masters Men 50+

Brian mentioned that the standard was extremely high, so much so that Peter rates his 8th placing this year as being better than his 5th place finish at last year's event.
