USANA didn't invent network marketing. The issue with most people that join in this type of business is they don't fully sell out to the product base they are endorsing. And the other issue is some only join for the prospect of "winning" a dream lifestyle. You have to treat it like any business, but also not let it dominate your social network. There is a fine line sometime.

I have been an Amway retread (x2 in) - to be fair the second time I join was only to get access to thier main event, as the have some absolutely awesome speakers lined up generally at thier conferences. Willie Jolley, Draig Dean - (was fortunate to have coffee with Craig and Anna at the Stamford back in the day - great people).

I am currently a registered Network Marketer - a cutting edge nutritional product but nothing that has come up in this forum so far > but choose only to prospect those that prospect me - and that are in the know nutritionally or from a sports perspective - been involved at a top level. I choose not to attend meetings and very rarely talk to those that a fully into the network business. Doing it this way has not burnt anyone in my social network. Even so, I have in two years, got downline in Malaysia, Australia and here of course. And I do receive a small passive income each month for which I am truely grateful - especially in these times.

network marketing exposed me to a lot of business ideas when I was young that most would not get a chance to until they were much older and experienced in their careers. One very good opportunity that gets overlooked:

You can register your home address, cellphone, car, insurance ..... etc as a business expense and off set you tax each year :) ... this is a great perk and almost reason enough to join a network.

just my 2c > but if your currently or thinking about joining a network > just doit .. but go into it with your eyes open and look for someone credible to guide you and mentor you.

We do have some intelligent people on these boards. It just seems a few spoil it for the rest.

The fact that I've heard from a couple of people, that there's been some badmouthing the industry and company gives me enough reason to reply to this post only once. So this is it:

Network marketing, the industry has exponentially blown up. More specifically within the health and wellness industry. Have you not noticed Sky Tv's refer a friend campagin, where you receive $50 credit if you refer a friend? - Wouldn't you rather refer a friend, and then receive 10% each month of whatever they pay to sky? YES, of course you would! This is what creates a residual income, and this is what a lot of network marketing companies offer you!

For those who decide to take advantage of current trends and actually get ahead in life, getting on board with a respected company is an intelligent decision.

As for how many people are currently involved in the industry, even just in Christchurch that i know first hand, this would include well respected trainers from almost every gym including pro/crighton/canterbury/YMCA to name a few, some of the health stores, naturopaths, herbalists, reflexologists. You name it!

If you think it's some sort of scam, you're wrong. The Industry of Network Marketing is here to stay, along with the company I'm involved with. There are many well respected people currently earning a very solid residual income, as i now am. I'm not trying to promote, rather educate a very uneducated community that could be benefiting from the potential growth this industry is having. There are many other people involved not just in my organisation but all over the world, and you will most certainly have either heard of these guys, or know of them whom are CHCH based who have either worked in a gym or currently are.

There will come a day, when you will be either networking or you won't be working.
