PROTEINS SHAKES..HOW MUCH

Sunshine

Recommended Posts

Was just browsing through the forums and saw a few people asking how much protein powder they use..I have always used two scoops of my natural flavour protein powder. Is this ok?

Also would like to know if any of you others when starting a new diet plan weather it be higher protein diet or just a change in their eating from what they ate before etc if this caused their stomach to get upset.

ie) bloating, cramps, wind etc.I'm really getting sick of my stomach getting these symptoms and it does not seem to be getting better as time goes by?

I just use what it says on the relevant tub to use. Some brands have the small scoop and say to use 3 scoops. The Physique I won a few weeks back says to use 2 scoops, but to be honest I haven't managed to find the scoop in that powder yet, so I have no idea what actual size that one is. The American brands I use all say one scoop, but their scoop is about 3 times the size of the Horley's scoop. So I reckon just use what it says, then you know how much of everything you're getting (cals, carbs, protein, fat).

As for wind - I've noticed a vast difference in lack of wind issues since I started using All the Whey protein powder, which I got sent from bodybuilding.com. The flavour is good enough for me to stick with this brand in future for this reason alone. There's no point looking great and smelling foul

HAHAHA :pfft: That is so true.I'm not convinced it's my powder though cause I remember years ago when I had a different protein powder I had the same problem  I might try some more fibre as well maybe that will help with the cramps? I dunno perhaps I'll do a bit of searching on the net.

Thanks Chillicat.

I've been told that wind is caused by undigested protein. My probelm last year was down to sugar free lollies- that wasn't pleasant.

If I develop wind now it's due to too much processed protein over a short space of time - as in protein powder. I try to space out all forms of protein evenly during the day including powder - which is normally 2 scoops at a time = 40gms.

2 scoops as a syrup over oats for breakfast

1 - 2 scoops with yoghurt during the day if I'm peckish

2 scoops post workout as a shake

Thanks for that, that's great info and makes complete sense...Here's when I have mine. Please let me know if this is just to often.Perhaps I should do only one scoop of protein?

Also I do have a lot of sugar free stuff like sugar and lollies and maple syrup now

6.30am Morning shake with banana and oats

10.00am After a workout

3.00pm snack(maybe I will stop this one)

7pm in a sludge.

This does not seem to be to often does it?...maybe it's because I'm also having protein also through the day as meals..ie) egg white, chicken? I must say protein diets seem to make this like this? Maybe I might have to go for another kinda diet? HELP!

If you still get a bit of wind - and we all know chicks can fart like blokes  - pineapple can help digestion. I tend to take a digestive support supp from Health 2000 until it settles down. The come off them - don't stay on them as you really need your natural body processes to break down the food.

Also work out what you took and when then alter it slightly to see what affects that has.

I just use however much I need to get my protein for the day.

Usually that means 3x30g scoops with water (~75g of protein) for my before/during workout shake and 2x30g + 500ml of milk (~70g protein) for after workout.

I don't use much on non-lifting days, but I do try to have a meal of 200g cottage cheese + 2x30g scoops before bed a lot of the time.

Protein powder isn't like creatine or something with a recommended dosage. It's just powdered food.

Hehe

Yer I was going to try some bromelain or slippery elm but like you said I really wanted to suss out what food is causing this and I'm hoping my body will start breaking the protein down itself however perhaps I do something to help things to start with. Will get something for sure.

Cheers and thanks for your help.
