Compression wear

Hi, just looking at investing in some Skins and wanting some opinions from people who have tried or currently use them.

Do you use the during and after training? Or just after training to help recovery?

I wonder if they assist muscles to much to be used during training and prevent gains?

Any replies would be great

I mainly use Skins for Rugby (Skins t-shirt and shorts), and to be honest, I think any difference you'll find will be mental. I bought them halfway through the season and didn't suddenly notice I ran faster or hit harder (damn! :pfft:) Hard to quantify the effect they have though to be fair... maybe I did have more spring in my step, or snap in my pass?

I've used them once or twice for deads and squats, and I did feel a bit better... but again, it may have just been in my head. I don't believe they noticeably assist lifts at all.

Have never thought of wearing them for recovery though, so I can't comment on that.

  • 3 months later...

i dont give a shit what people think, but I wear 3/4 skins during squats/leg day, as I like the freedom and flexibility..I use to wear shorts and tracks but they just cling went I get down to a certain point and it interrupts my rhythm and flow with the constant reps i try to get out...

I wear the adiadas short skins when I train plus I bought them at good from Steraling sports for only $49.95 plus the sure beat wearing shorts which I use to wear when training.I have seen the prices for the other skins that are out there and they are expensive.

I have tried using Skins when I was weight training, but felt "seeing" the muscles working was more motivation for me than the extra support the Skins provided.

I have two pair, one I wear doing cardio (the older pair as they are loser on my huge calves :pfft: and they keep the quads and hammy's tight and the other pair are newer so more compression and I use them for recovery. I sleep in them and also wearing them during the day several days after my leg train.

A good example of how they work for me is this. I have long legs and when I compete I can often get cramps from the dehydration in my calves (furtherest from the heart and all) and I often have to hobble back stage after the round. If I do cramp, I put the skins on and the cramp goes almost instantaneously. Sure, I couldn't walk a marathon and I am still sore, but only the feeling you usually get after the cramp and it's not once came back while wearing them. It goes away to the point you can do the night show in similar fashion.

Simply put, I wouldn't be without them. I'm not really that keen on trying the cheaper brands, but they may work to.

Cheers

Grego

think placebo effect is the only effect these bad boys will give you.

False.

Its simple science. When muscles are compressed, they dont have to work as hard and use less energy. I can run a lot further when wearing compression tights than when I'm not.

Great for recovery as well.

I was thinking of getting some zenash compression gear from bb.com, reasonably cheap, well hopefully inexpensive not cheap. It's good to get feedback on compression gear. I am hoping some longs will help my knee recovery whilst i train still. Thanks all for the opinions.

but the placebo comes in from the fact that, how much compression are you actually getting from these??

i know my dry suit (wet suit) compresses my body ALOT more than skins. perhaps i should wear that to the gym?

it is science, your right, but i dont think these provide THAT much compression really do they??

if you were to put it on your chest would you strugle to breathe? thats compression.

i agree they work, but to what extent. $200 for leggings worth??

food for thaught.

id just grab a cheap knock off brand.

probably provides the exact same amount of compression and at quarter the price.

be careful of purchasing a logo.

So do you wear skins instead of shorts? Or do you wear shorts over the top? (Having worn a Spiderman costume last Halloween, I have first-hand experience of just how revealing this sort of clothing can be! :P)

And isn't it too hot? During summer, it's bad enough doing squats in shorts and singlet, let alone tights.
