But surely her kids HAVE missed out on something.....what you reckon?

Maybe her kids aren't spoiled lazy brats, but instead support their mother doing what makes her happy by pitching in and helping out. Surely that's got to be good for her kids, to see their mother work hard and achieve success?

I just meant she seems extremely busy and it seems to me that the time she spends with her kids is when she competing....but if her kids like that and enjoy it then its all good isnt it.

"But she says her daughters Shannon, 16, and Megan, nine, remain her top priority.

She said: 'The kids remain my number one priority, and since their schedule varies a lot so does mine.

'Every day is different for me and I just have to fit my training in whenever I can, two sessions a day.

'I'll do an hour and a half of weight training and at least an hour of cardiovascular work each day, but it changes where, when and how I get it all done.

'It takes a lot of commitment - I just use every minute of the day.

Kim, of Yeovil, Somerset, is often up at 6am to squeeze in a training session before taking the kids to school.

Megan has started going to martial arts training with her mum - who has a black belt in Taekwondo - and Shannon designs Kim's bodybuilding outfits."

- She notes that the kids are her top priority, alters her schedule to fit in with theirs

- She takes them to school

- She involves her kids in her interests but I doubt whether she's forcing them to. A 16 year old girl might actually enjoy fashion design. And a martial art is a healthy activity for a 9 year old. Doing something like that with your fit mum is probably pretty cool.

Sounds like a bloody good mum to me. A lot of kids don't get to spend any time with their parents.

I have to say that, from my personal knowledge of a couple of female bb'ers or other hard-out athletes, with families, that they're actually amongst the MOST concerned that their training doesn't impact on their children.

It'd be unduly harsh or cynical to assume that these athletes were any more or less prone to making others suffer for their sport, surely - regardless of their gender.

Nicely said. No one ever seems to question fathers who do well in their sports/jobs/whatever and how their other commitments/choices might impact on their ability to parent. It's always the women who get the 'oooh how their children must suffer' comments because they don't drop everything for their offspring. Doesn't matter that the article says she's divorced - she may be primary caregiver, but her ex still has responsibilities to those kids - it's not all up to her, and she has the right to her own interests. Personally I'd consider that a far better role model than the martyr (which is the version of motherhood someone I know presents, she who has dropped everything for her kids). Just my opinion as a spawn-free person (but still someone's daughter).
