I understand that in the states alot school kids get to do alot of weight lifting with their sports like football n shit and P.e etc. But there was nothing like that when I was at school.

Ive been thinkning and rekon there is proli a huge hole there in NZ. I mean Im sure a certain % of the boys at school would definatly hit up strength classes if given the opotunity.

Good work man/team.

Question:

Is there any weight rooms in schools? There must b, I guess I didnt stay at school long enuf to find out. :naughty:

Eastside Barbell Club is hosting a strength training workshop for secondary school students from 14 December to 18 December (11 am to 1 pm daily) in Christchurch. There is no cost to attend. No previous experience required. Both males and females are encouraged to attend.

This is a great chance to learn the basic techniques in Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, Strongman and general weight training. The emphasis will be on good technique and safety. The workshop will be largely practical and will also cover basic nutrition and recovery.

We have some top athletes and coaches on board for the workshop. See the link below, or contact me for more information.

We had a successful first workshop. A full report will be on the Eastside website shortly. In brief, 22 kids aged 14-18 attended at some point. The majority of these attended all 5 sessions and participated in the competition at the conclusion.

Overall we are pleased with what we have achieved. We plan to run more of these during hoilday periods in 2010. We will also offer an after school programme during term time on Wednesdays.
