Strength Training Workshop for Secondary School Students

Dr Squat

Recommended Posts

Eastside Barbell Club is hosting a strength training workshop for secondary school students from 14 December to 18 December (11 am to 1 pm daily) in Christchurch. There is no cost to attend. No previous experience required. Both males and females are encouraged to attend.

This is a great chance to learn the basic techniques in Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, Strongman and general weight training. The emphasis will be on good technique and safety. The workshop will be largely practical and will also cover basic nutrition and recovery.

We have some top athletes and coaches on board for the workshop. See the link below, or contact me for more information.

Do we have to attend all 4 sessions?

Each session will pretty much stand alone, while people are encouraged to attend all it is not required.

Outline at the moment is a general introdution and basic overview, a powerlifting session, a olympic session, a strongman session and then a final session to tie it all togther and cover things like nutrition, recovery etc and possibly so sort of informal competition.

Has been in the pipeline for a while but the doc has come to the fore. I will be helping out with the powerlifting session a number of pretty talented/experienced people will be contributing so encourage anyone you know that might be interested to come along.

Good stuff Doc!

Lets see the next dominant teenagers / juniors coming out of Chch. Northland had this locked down for a while, Auckland were strong in this area as well of late.

The plan next year is to run after school sessions each Wednesday. We will donate our time and in return we hope to grow the strength sport base.

Good stuff mate,

Who have you got representing the Olympic lifting syndicate?

Lee Atrill, former Commonwealth Games representative. Lee is a great technician and works really well with kids. I rate him really highly. We are using Lee extensively at Eastside for the off season training programs for rugby players.

He repped NZ at the 1998 Comm Games (I think).

Definitely a great asset. Great stuff Dr Squat and ESB!!!!
