Nate & Darc Strongman Session 31/10/09

Cheers guys (and Rose!).

The Yoke Walk is hard with a chain yoke, had 225 from memory for 15m. Actually tried 245 afterwards but was on a sloping section of grass, was enough to make me crab sideways for 6 steps before getting buried! The 285kg for 25m in Sydney (using a solid yoke) was much easier - will be interesting to see what the 305 for 15m will be like at Oz Strongman.

155kg rock is greywacke stone, so is fairly smooth & slippery compared to NZSM 155 which eats forearm flesh! Apparently they named it the "Bitch Maker" - cos when people miss it they bitch about it being too big or heavy

I love these vids keep them coming. A friend of mine does alot of this sort of training. He has loads of kettlebells, sand bags (one is 70kg!) heavy sleds for drag work etc. He allways trains outdoors, and im allways promising to go work out with him but havent done so yet. But when Ive seen your vids I think yeah that looks like fun im going to go do that

Thats some mint equipment you got there nate!

Yeah my friend made up a whole bunch of stuff for us (Log, Axle, Monster DB, Farmers etc) to go along with all the Getstrength & Ironmind stuff in the gym.

On an aside if anyone wants a competition level Steel Log sing out (like the one in the video). My friend makes them for $600, there are four identical ones out there already (2 in Akld, 2 in HB), 70kg unloaded, so solid as!

Is big sam a contendor for the win?

Definately, although Nickoli is defending champ and I would say favourite (he did say his money was on Sam tho!).

Puts me in a strange situation as I coach Sam currently & I had coached Nick for a number of years prior to his move to Akld. I've still been doing some programming with him, although he has also been working with Matt Rossiter & Wookie on implements so that is likely to add to his game. I'll be cheering both of them on, and unless something unexpected happens one of them will have the 2009 title

My picks for HW results in events are:

56LBS WEIGHT FOR HEIGHT Nick or Sam, will be very close, Nick is better technically but Sam is brute strong!

FARMERS WALK 2X112.5KG - 50MTRS Nick on speed, grip is no issue for either of these guys

LOG LIFT FOR MAX Sam by 30kg

160KG ANVIL CARRY FOR MAX DISTANCE Nick cleaned up last year & this event requires good cardio fitness, have to go with Nick on this one

HERCULES HOLD - 2X117KG BLOCKWEIGHTS Sam will destroy all records on this without doubt

STONES 99,114,126,139,155KG ONTO 1.2MTR BARRELS Probably Nick, both are great stonelifters but Sam has never trained on the NZSM Stones whereas Nick does regularly

Is going to be very close either way, the WFH event will be crucial as will countbacks and placings (i.e in event of tie for events won, a third placing in one event could lose the title).
