So NZSM, BBro, North Islands and the ESB comp all on the same day? That's crazy

In order of importance it would go:

1st equal NZSM, BBro, ESB

4th North Islands! Aka the comp no-one ever bothers going to & should be taken off the NZPF Calendar!!!

Nate, the north islands has been well attended by everyone in the past except your CD who for some reason have not historically wanted to support the event. Luckily though the powers that be have wisened up to this and the north islands to be held by CD next year. Hopefully CD will attend their own event and not get stuck on principles of not attending.

Haha agreed, BBro edging out the rest though only cos the Spartans will be there :D

I would favour NZSM with Heavy Duty Magele & Nickoli the Hammer going head to head, with Jono in the crowd half way thru his 3 bottles of Drambuie!

I think the NZSM has priority and the BBro is a close second. I hope in time that the Eastside Open can be the South Island equivalent of the BBro. I still dream of a powerful raw PL federation in NZ.

In terms of the NI champs, why isn't this held at the same time as the SI champs? June/July from memory.

with 3 power lifting comps in one day would be the perfect time for a postal national raw champs - maybe an extension of the eastside raw challenge.

ipf are discussing raw worlds and similar at the moment, so it have momentum but whether the equipment manufacturers will let this happen is another matter.

To be fair Simbo I think many in the Central Districts region (i.e. Taupo to Wellington) saw the NI's as an Akld Comp and left it at that. Most of the lifters in CDPA are realitively new faces now days, so with a little better organisation (i.e. not rescheduling to the same date as a planned regional as I think happened this year? Correct me if I'm wrong?) it could be well supported in the future.

I'm not being negative, just stating it how it was seen by many in the past. Hopefully it becomes a valuable fixture on the NZPF Calendar in the near future.

The Miada NZ Strongest Man 2009, was held at the Auckland Highland Games 28 November 2009. Solid field with 14 competitors including the reigning champ & U105 champ (Nick & Justin). I even think one Jr BBer competed? Tesina Tongi?

Official results for top five were:

1) Nick 'the hammer' Hansen (dominated winning by 9 points)

2) Sam 'Heavy Duty' Magele

3) Nate Williams (1st place U105)

4) Dale Sheppard

5) Justin Keogh (2nd place U105)

Of note new Hercules Hold record set by myself (1.13 I think with 117kg per side), record established on stones (100, 116, 126, 139, 155 onto 1.2m barrels) at about 28 secs by Nick Hansen. Mike Olsen, an U105 competitor (on debut) managed 80 metres with the 160kg Anvil.

Full competition results to follow.

Big Sam is a great athlete and I know that Nick H has great praise for him also. I would expect him to be a future NZSM champion.

Great to hear of his raw powerlifting feats also. A huge man squatting 400 kg plus. Now that's what the people want to see.
