Thanks in advance is called please.

Is it just me, or are people on this forum getting more and more smartass-ey and rude to innocent new members who are just wanting advice/help? Can we just tone it down a lil and stop acting all high and mighty? And i'm not just picking you out Dontrunwithknives... Its just the general theme i've been seeing lately... i.e flatmate thread and various others. You can tell me to get over it etc but I just dont see the need for it?

Anyway....

anyone here eat beef jerky? Can you suggest me a good quality beef jerky product? Thanks in advance

Jerky's awesome =P~ There aren't that many products readily available in NZ so I just eat the standard/only stuff you'll find at the supermarket, Jack Links. Its Pretty good, 97% fat free although kinda expensive.

I think Pams or something has started coming out with some crap, but its gross/real tough. I think you can source really nice locally prodcued stuff if you tried... but i never bothered.

By beef jerky I am assuming you mean dried meat or I personally know it as "biltong". In Chch there is a South African butcher in Linwood which sells this stuff. It's really good and is cured really well. I buy loads of it sometimes. I don't think there is any difference in nutritional value when compared to normal cooked meat. Biltong is traditional African practise of preserving meat by hanging it to dry. So wherever you're in NZ if you look for a South African butcher shop chances are they will have it.

Hey all,

I'm new on NZbodybuilding (as of today!) I hope the majority of you are freindly and there's only a small few playing rough...

As for the beef jerky discussion, i'm a big fan! Was munching on a packet today, the best i've come across in NZ!! It's called 'Biltong', from a traditional old SA recipe but made in Christchurh from a company called "Canterbury Biltong Ltd" check out canterburybiltong.co.nz

per 100gm

55gm protein

2.6gm sugar

5.1gm carbs

Pretty good if you ask me!

5 different flavours and you can get it from some New Worlds and the Family Barrow in downtown Auckland.

Protein content is typicaly nice and high, carbs and fat low but...

Nutritional Info

(Ave serving 40g) Biltong Per 100g

Energy (kj/100g) 1200

Total Protein 55g

Total Fat 3.9g

Saturated Fat 1.8g

Total Carbohydrate 5.1g

Sugars 2.6g

Sodium (mg/100g) 1800

Iron (mg/kg) 41

Check out the sodium content. Most bodybuilders are aware excess sodium attracts/ retains water of the wrong variety (not to be confused with cell volumisation through means such as creatine which is positive.)

Ask any bodybulider pre-contest all about sodium and they will be highly aware of sodium levels in most foods. Most try to keep it lower than 500mg/ day. Beef Jerkey delivers more than triple this in one serving!

Great source of protein in your gaining phase but no good come summer time...

Hmmmm i'm going to have to source myself some of that Biltong. The Jacklinks stuff is definutly overly processed, always thought that just never really saw an alternative and loved it too much to stop eating jerky all together.

I usually make my own, let it sit in soy sauce for 3 days and dry it out.

Its easy to eat

Wow, that actually works? Its that easy?
