Getting rid of a gut

Recommended Posts

Now, I never used to have a gut, I never had a flat stomach or six pack but I never had a gut either.

I've definately been lazy this year, prob because I got shin splints and hadnt been to the gym in a long while after I was made redundant. (Excuses excuses.)

So I put on a bit of a gut after too much beer drinking and what not.

I know cardio is the best way overall to lose fat, but are there any other things you guys do yo lose a gut i.e special excersise?

I'm a true beleiver in getting off my arse and doing it the real way by excersising, not taking some bullshit weight loss shake or some other crap like that. (which is ironic as I havnt got off my arse as much as I could of.) :D

Yes: more cardio :)

Oh, and the two-step diet. Take two steps away from the pies!

Seriously, abs (equals absence of gut) are made in the kitchen. You don't need no magic potions (if they even work!), what you need is a good, close-to-natural, diet, with balanced protein/carbs/fats running eg a 500cal deficit below maintenance for your age/height/weight/gender.

do you think thats going to be difficult considering that I'm bulking?

I sometimes think that because im bulking its an excuse to eat more fatty foods etc than someone who is cutting.

Yes, a bulking phase will involve a lot of extra calories in the form of protein and carbs - and a lot of muscle work.

I'll defer to others more wise than I on whether bulking HAS to involve more fatty foods (Optimass, Trainharder and others that I'm aware of, for starters) - or to be accurate, more carbs - but I'm sure there are threads here on "clean bulking".

But, if you've developed a beer gut, clearly you were taking in more carbs than you were expending, and it's my understanding the only way to get rid of excess bodyfat is a calorie deficit and a fine-tuned diet.

This would work - leaves little time for eating.

You gonna give it a go? I'll throw in a free set of steak knives!

Yeh would of been nice to have a body like Christian Bale when he did American Psycho. "In the morning, I start off with crunches, I can do a thousand now." Something like that.

Well, hes more cut in that than anything.

Really? I'm stuggling to see a downside to this.

Oh...but I almost long for the days where I used to come home drunk and get tempted by the ads for the ginsu knife set...

Nah man, he's ripped in The Machinist:

edit: Ha, I'm slow today...

LOL. Did he lose all that weight because he was really into the role, or do you think he was showing off by losing all that weight?

Either way, credit to him. He soon bulked up for Batman.
