Hi Guys,

About time I got back into the gym, have been doing odd workouts here and there but nothing too serious for like ten years.

First started gym in 1992, Golds gym Townsville Aus (not sure it is there now but was an awesome gym. A warehouse with rubber mats and fans, hot as hell but everybody there was hardcore. People would pat you on the back if you passed out after a set... oh yeah). Starting weight was around the 64kg mark at 5'9".

In 1996 I was approached to compete but did not feel I was ready. Me and few mates I trained went to the Vic finals and they all said I would have taken my weight div... Still annoyed at myself for not competing. Was only 79kg at 8 - 9 % body fat and white as a ghost (no tan)... lol

BTW, 79kg looks big on my frame. 17inch arms 32inch waist 42inch Chest (not big by today's standard but back then). Yeah yeah I know you big boys are laughing...

In 1997 - went back to Townsville with the Army and 2 weeks bush, 2 weeks base, 2 weeks bush for 1 year put me back to 73kg (my new base weight thank god).

1998 - (Creatine became popular in Aus), Used it and rocketed up to 82kg from the 73kg in a 3 month period. A mate was doing night shift, would get him to ring me at midnight so I could get up and eat..

1999 - East Timor, lost everything AGAIN!!! so back to 73 - 74kg

2000 - Sydney Olympics with the Army (not a competitor lol). Intense training with protein bombs (sorry asio) and creatine again got me from 73kg up to 84kg at 8% body fat within 4 months (Muscle memory is a wonderful thing).

Since then it has been even more hit and miss. Working out for a few months, 12 months very rarely and then something crops up with work that stops me in my tracks. Heading to NZ and cannot wait to hit the gym hard and put on the bulk and then some...

Supps and Powders..

Tried almost everything - Rate none bar Creatine.

At one stage even imported Vanadly Sulphate from NZ, who remembers that stuff?

I thought it was awesome but it could have been other stuff I was on...

I had good results years ago with Musashi Chief (pretty sure they changed the ingredients, went back to it four years later and did not notice anything though).

Fav Plateau Busters. (I have been out for a while so names may have changed)

7's or 21's - Leg Extension for example, 7 full range, 7 low range (come half way up), 7 high range ( feel the burn baby!!)

Forced Negatives - Preacher Curl... After finishing the last set, spotter helps raise the bar, then pulls / pushes on the bar taking the weight from 40kg to 60kg and you lower slowly fighting the mongrel rat bastard.. Can damage ligaments if not careful so only do with experienced campaigners.

Pinnacle Reps - Find the sweet spot of the lift, that one spot that gives you the biggest burn / pump and hold for a ten count on every rep for six.

Fav Stars.

Thanks guys,

Firstly, why the move to Dunedin... well it is a long story. Where do I start....

We like the place... yep well that sums it up.

Basically we arrived in CCH and within twenty minutes of driving to our hotel decided we were going to move to NZ. The architecture and style of the place is just awesome. We did a tour of the south island and decided on Dunedin because I am in the IT industry and it would support my career whilst still being small and slower than the major capitals... Although to be honest I am thinking of getting into the PT market but we will see...

Gym Rat, yeah I hear / see you are in for some snow fall tonight. Brisbane gets rather cold too, I had to go and put on a singlet just now, was getting a bit chilly...

On a serious note, yeah I have lived in Gippsland Vic and use to ride the pushy to school in -5c, I remember when we use to run our hands under the cold drinking water taps to warm our hands up.. It will be different but to tell the truth this is what we are chasing.

Now somebody said something about good gains. I was taking quite a few VITAMINS (is that subtle), at one stage doing a 6 stack. Stopped them when Creatine hit the market as was in the forces and to tell the truth I can make decent gains with Creatine and a decent powder. So have not touched in ten years. As for powder, I make my own. When I get over there I am thinking of making up a big batch and seeing if people on this forum will test and give feedback.

17" guns, yeah I looked awesome. As long as I kept my pants on, twigs / toothpicks / the classic lightbulb look / baseball bat, call it what you will but the top half of my body weighed about 77kg, the lower was about 2kg... lol

I am a very open person and happy to discuss anything, but trying to get my head switched back into the gym being out of it for so long so be patient.

As for a gym, not sure yet to be honest. They seem pricey compared to Aus... I pay on average $35 a month. May have to become student to afford it.

It is what drove me to this forum, searching for gyms and reviews..
