Hi all

Have just joined this website and enjoy learning browsing the forums. I am 21 male, 6foot tall and weigh in about 80kgs. I been lifting weights on and off for about a year now and have gained some (not alot) muscle in my upperbody. However since summers is around the corner, I feel I need to be put into the right direction when it comes to lowering my bodyfat.

I am in the gym 4 times a week and doing cardio 3 times a week. My diet is pretty clean at the moment also. I have some questions that may help me achieve my goals. I have been told that it is impossible to gain muscle and lose body fat at the same time, is this true? is so how do I keep as much muscle on my body and lose the fat at the same time? I'm trying to stay at around 80kgs but also trying to get cut and toned for summer (six pack abs) but don't want to lose my muscles and end up skinny. any help would be great, thanks for reading.

It is definitely possible to gain muscle while dropping fat. It just comes down to foods you eat...quote

i think thats a nice fuzzy myth.. try put an inch on your arms while dropping fat.. it just wont happen more then likely you will drop some.. at best you will maintain

unless youre still experiencing newbie gains which in a dude thats 6foot and 80kg is highly plausable

actually i think its opposite. its all too easy for people to train hard but then eat like utter shit but claim to everyone that their 'bulking' so its sweet. Growing whilst on a clean bulk is much harder and takes much more discipline. If you are eating and training right I can't see that this is impossible at all - have a read of what Krabs has written in the anabolic diet section.

Whats the point in putting on an inch on your arms but then losing 50% of it when you cut? You might as well bulk the clean way and and not have to drop any fat.

Gotta agree with you here.. My school of thought is to gain weight (or muscle) you need excess calories, to lose weight (or fat) you need a calorie defecit.

If theres people out there putting on a good amount of mass while losing bodyfat, someone please give me some examples..

Pretty much this, yes. Beginners can do some recomping, more advanced people can with a lot of work, but generally speaking it boils down to calorie balance.

Poor Sharky, welcome! Asking can-of-worms questions since ages ago :pfft: A-n-y-w-a-y, I was thinking  6 foot, 80kg, need a visual representation. So I just asked a work colleague how tall he is. He's 6' 1" and roughly 88kg. Harsh critic, I'd call him skinny fat but with clothes on he just looks tall and lean. I don't really want to imagine him without clothes on and am succeeding with this so please don't ruin it :puke: To cut this lovely story short, if he lost fat he'd look terrible. So, Sharky, I say eat big and clean and put some more muscle on before cutting. Cos who wants to be a weed in a speedo?
