Hi anyone reading this,

Have you ever been in this situation? Milk gives my a dull pain, yogurt gives me a dull pain, whey gives me a dull pain and gas. I'm beginning to think I may be on the wrong track? :?

Any ideas what I can do as I really want to put on some lean muscle.

Patch.

You can get enzyme pills that help you digest dairy products - have you tried those?

:-s Yeah throw some pills at it, you'll be right mate

Alternatively, cut right back on anything containing lactose and reintroduce slowly to find the point at which your body can't cope. Most people can tolerate some. Some people can't tolerate any. Yes you can buy lactase pills but if you don't want to live on pills the rest of your life then the alternative is to figure out how much lactose you can tolerate.

Personally, I'd switch to whey isolate (low/no lactose) and try milk/yoghurt in smaller amounts. Switching to isolate *might* give you the ability to tolerate milk/yoghurt in lower doses.

"What are the symptoms of lactose intolerance?

The common symptoms of lactose intolerance are nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, abdominal cramps, and the passing of flatus (air). The degree of symptoms depends on the amount of milk taken in (more specifically, the amount of lactose) and the degree to which the body is deficient in lactase enzyme."

Have a nice day!

If you really think you're lactose intolerant get the biopsy done, don't piss about with the internet forum doctors here!

Without doing a full noise elimination diet (Most Dietitians use the Royal Prince Albert Hospital elimination diet from memory?) you're really just guessing what you are allergic / intolerant to.

Thats my 10 cents...

Well yes, but elimination is likely more immediately accessible and it's not rocket science.

Looks like the OP has already narrowed it down to something that happens after ingesting milk, yoghurt and whey. Well whaddya know, they all contain milk sugar hey? It's not hard to eliminate that to test for it

Dude you shouldn't need a biopsy for a lactose intolerance. All they do is give you the Lactose Tolerance test which entails giving you a lactose supplement and essentially waiting to see if it gives you the shits. Well kinda, a more exact way is taken through taking blood specimens or by hydrogen breath analysis. But for me it would simply be a case of getting the screaming shits. Biopsy would be reserved more for crohns or severe gluten intolerance.

You can get one of those fancy pants hair tests which may or may not work depending on who you talk to. Or you can do what I did and go to the most alternative witch doctor you can find. She ended up giving me some evil brown potion that I had to drink twice a day for a month and which put me off eating anything bad for a good few years.

Lactase enzyme can help a bit depending on the severity of it however it's best just to cut the lactose out completely if you can.

I haven't been in that situation, but it sounds like you're lactose intolerant. You can get enzyme pills that help you digest dairy products - have you tried those?

Hey Pseudonym

I've been taking some lactase for the past few days and the pain is gone. I have a few other questions but I'll post them in the right forum.

Cheers.
