its un-parrelled, fantastic atmosphere great gear lots of weight, lifting platforms, briliant leg presses, got to check it out, $ well spent in my opinion,

but i am bias

I haven't been for a look as yet. I saw a good article in the Press and it sounds great. Very modern, great equipment and well thought out. Amazing that they have spent $10 million on the upgrade.

Les Mills looks to have set the standard for health clubs in Christchurch. It will be interesting to see the response from Pro-fitness. :)

Ummm $10 million is a lot of coin to generate through memberships? Especially with Quest, Pro Fitness and I'm sure a few fitness centres in Chch competing for the same target audience?

Sounds interesting for the fitness masses though, although to be honest I'll still be heading for ESB! Especially when it gets it's new $25 upgrade (a new chalk container & some 2-ply toilet paper  )

C'mon Nate, we spend $25 a week on 2-ply toilet paper at ESB. Something about those hardcore guys and girls and their huge protein intake.

Anyone know if they allow casual visits? I may need to spend some time in Chch in the coming months, and the new gym is handy to where my work's Chch office is, so be great to be able to do casuals if possible.

Chain fitness clubs like Les Miserabes are usually > $20 per session.

I don't give a f*ck if you're Jay Cutler or Mariusz Pudzianowski, to justify $25-30 for one workout it's gotta be one mfer of a workout! :pfft:

Often you can get a freebie, unfortunately you usually have to listen to a preprepared sales pitch from a "PT" or "Gym Instructor" that knows less about training than my great aunt! Ask them some curly questions about "accomodating resistance" or their view on the Linear periodsiation vs. Westside vs. Sheiko debate for strength training! Works a treat!

love it Mike :) D/B and B/B tech has come so fare over the years :P

Anyone know what parking is like? I haven't been assed to check it out yet. Plus its still probably insanely busy and packed with posers at this point when the hype is still about.

as for parking pro fittness leads the market with awsome space,

lm are working on a plan to improve their position in this department :)

as for casuals if your in town and want a 1 off workout give me a call and i can arange it for niks, zip zilch zero, and you can avoid the sales pitch too :)

I had heard they were putting an platform in, sounds good! Unusual trying to cater to Oly / PLers given the fitness centre tradition? Any reasons for the shift in approach?

Good news for lifters none the less.

Comon Mike to be fair they have spent well over 6 months putting in a couple of orange walls, a new spin bike room & a bit of insulation on the roof. The lifting equipment is getting tired, the benches are ripped & the squat rack was moved onto a bit of a harder surface because it was falling through the old false flooring. I still love being at PF but they got some serious competition now to deal with & they will have to be more than on their toes to survive the storm.

lol isnt that the great thing about the gym, if you buy a computer its outdated in 2 weeks, the gym will always be bars and steel i cant see the technology in barbells an weights being too complex!

NZBB: representing a small portion of the market since it's inception. I agree, I'd rather use some dbs, bbs, and a rack or two for my training.

I do however enjoy watching businesses prosper when they get the recipe right. Les Mills, as much as I dislike them, have got it very right. They make huge money from their group fitness programs, which are now licensed in something like 90 countries around the world. Good on them I say. I did enjoy training at their lower hutt site once upon a time.

A bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone. Without competition, you get things like shitty slow broadband, and expensive power prices. With it, you get better service, lower prices etc.

True, as much as I avoid 'shinyland gyms' Les Mills certainly have a winning business formula.

I'll cast my typical NZer tall poppy attitude aside for a moment and say well done, hopefully Mr Mills can now afford steak with his beans and rice!
