Possible to tell who's using roids?

Is it possible to tell with any degree of certainty who is using steroids just by looking at them. I personally find it very easy to tell: Anyone who is proportionately more muscular or stronger than me, or is of similar proportionate strength and musculature but is of under 10% bodyfat, is on steroids. :)

To ask the question another way, is there a way you can prove you are not on the juice? I've been accused of being on roids a few times (although not enough for my liking). Is there a way I can prove this is not the case?

Interesting, I dont believe there is a way to tell just by looking at someone though I have met people who say they can tell.

You would have to know someone for a period of time and see the change if they grew real quick, had bad acne (and not a teen) I guess you would be right in guessing they were on some hormone.

the olympic sports drug testers reckon they can catch any cheats there fore they should be able to show you as clear. But I am sure there is stuff out there they cant detect

Based on just one encounter, I would have to say it's not really possible to tell if someone is on roids (unless the person in question happens to have recently won a professional bodybuilding competition).

I've known natural trainers who were huge and lean. On the other hand, I've met a few people who were on steroids but there was no way I could tell - they looked no different than an average lifter.

As for proving you're not using steroids - good luck without a drug test.

a common sign could be bloat (unless they use something for it)!

a friend of my flatmates came over one day next day at uni she told the whole class i did roids and i didnt' even mention bodybuilding in front of her. it annoyed me actually, that she just assumed and told a whole group of people (some of which i know) like that.

thats one example. in general yes

I think you can never be absolutely certain that a person is on AAS.

There are certain things that may lead you to believe a person is on AAS, out of proportion shoulders/traps, insanely huge and ripped, bloating, bad acne, lifting seemingly unbelivable weights for there size, incredible vascularity, they may have blown up all of a sudden in size.

The more of these attributes a person shows, you would think maybe they are on AAS, but the thing is these attributes can be found in non users too so you can never be 100% sure.

agree, however if they are genetically disposed to being naturally large and lean these traits can occur in someone naturally or by using legal supplements. I have seen some pretty small guys lift some bloody big weights that they jsut shouldn't be able to do.

I think that there's no certain way. gyno maybe from abuse of AAS aggression, body acne, sometimes although this can occur with excess sweat and heat etc.

I think that if AAS are used as a supplement they can't be notices as the gains are steady and proportional(if training properly and cycled well etc) However if abuse of AAS occurs, Gyno(bitch tits, acne, aggression, balding, excess hair, voice breaking, testicle shrinkage, etc etc)

To judge from the replies, it can't be possible to tell, as I seem to have all the mentioned negative side affects of using roids (apart from testicle shrinkage) without actually using them. :(

I would say you have naturally high test levels then.

yeah I know it's a monkey, last summer I had the worst shoulder acne imaginable, and I was clean, and I made some good gains, etc.

Got to watch for that testicle shrinkage though :pfft:

I get bad acne on the back from time to time and it is a nuisance bacuase people jump to the wrong conclusion.

I had to laugh about the testical shrinkage though , surley this is not something you would notice as an indicator in other people though. Unless you are into checking out other guys packages. " are you on gear mate? your nads appear to have shrunk!"

lol. basically due to the introduction of artificial hormone into the system, the body attempts to balance itself by producing the counter hormone. ie if you introduce test estrogen will be produced by the body to balance. this would result in testicle shrinkage/ voice breaking and other female traits (mood swings, emotional states etc) The male effects like balding and acne are from the artificial introduction of test hormones. you can always balance these and control the side effects by introducing more drugs to the system, but I am a strong believer that if this is occuring you are taking too much.

I may be wrong on some of these points though and am always appreciative of corrections :)

I belive the ball shrinkage is due to the fact that since there is so much exogenous test there is no reason for your body to produce its own anymore because of the feedback system, too much test and your body lowers/shuts down production, too little test and your body will up production, not because of the increased estrogen you will have in your body.
