from 85kg to 75kg in 2.5 months

Hi everyone,

I have been weight training for about 10 months now. I started bulking in Jan 2009 but found I was gaining too much fat that I was not to happy with. I started bulking with 27% B/F. About 3 months ago, I decided to cut to reduce my B/F. I plan to get down to single digit (say 9 - 10%) and then start bulking again. My current weight is 75kg.

When I first started HIIT (after weights), I was making very good progress. I was loosing 1.0 – 1.2kg per week. I have lost 10kg in 2.5 months but now I seem to have hit a brick wall. I just can’t lose any more weight. I have tried carb cycling, calorie cycling and even changed HIIT intensity but nothing seems to work. The only thing that has worked for me is if I stop weights and HIIT for one week and double my calories for one week and than start weights/HIIT again I start buring fat again. I did this last time and it worked but only for one week and then some old brick wall. I don’t want to repeat the above each time I plateau coz I don’t want to be dieting for too long.

Can someone please provide some advice on an alternative way of breaking thru the Plateau?

what is your current bf %

I am not really sure what is my current B/F.

I have a cheap body fat analyser which say 20%. A really expensive body fat analyser at my supplemnt shop says 14%.

I usually measure progress by looking in the mirror. I have started to see the upper abs now. Don't think you can see any abs at 20% so I must be lower than 20%.

You must mean 50mg of caffeine not 500mg per serve?

Apples are shit pre-workout, ditch that, you don't need fibre or fructose pretraining, nor do you need carnitine post workout. The protein is going to render it pretty much useless anyway. Same goes for your pretraining shake - carnitine shouldn't be combined with other amino's.

You're not eating anywhere near enough fat. Why do so many people on low carb diets drop fat intake? YOU MUST HAVE FATS AND OILS ON A LOW CARB DIET.

And if you are going to have carbs on a low carb diet you would be better off having them pre and post workout.

500mg is what I take per serve.

The apple and protein is taken atleast 1.5hrs before I start training sometime 2hrs before. On non weights training days I skip the apple.

I usually try an limit carbs after weights/HIIT. I also take carnitine 20mins before weights/HIIT and straight after weights/HIIT to aviod amino's clashing. I take protein isolates 30mins later. Sorry my diet break down does not show this.

You are right my fat intake is low. I have tried an found I get much better results when I lower my fat intake. I have tried alot of things and low fats diet works for me but thanks for your comments.

My aim at the moment is to find an alternative why to break thru the plateau and start burning fat again.

The caffeine pills I have in my arsenal are 200mg so taking 500mg is easy. Don't think I'd take that much, you'd be awake for a while.

Haha I could take 500mg of caffeine straight before bed and still be fine.. Maybe its a result of too much previous substance abuse lol

hey holdenman

got a question for you.

when you take your caffeine pills on an empty stomach do you get a burning feeling in the tummy? Previously I used to take a strong cup of coffee in the morning and pre workout. Since I have changed to caffeine pills (200mg per pill and I take 2 + 500mg green tea extract) I get this burning feeling in the tummy and its making me feel sick. It does't happen straight away, may be couple of hours later.

Its worst if I take the pills in the morning on an empty stomach. Stuffs up my whole day.

Whats you experience?

I now take 2 pills pre workout only with green tea extract.

500mg per does is alot - theres no way that is a healthy amount. It was my understanding (correct me if im wrong) that its not necessary, or recommended, to take more than 200mg at once?

You might also find that your body has developed a tolerance towards caffeine - you might even find that you get some withdrawal symptoms if you don't have any for a while.

Do you not get the shakes if you have that amount? I took 400mg once and the shakes for a ages

No shakes in my case. I guess everyone reacts differently. I have cut the caff first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I keep getting a burning feeling in my stomach and it makes me sick. I now take 500mg before workouts only.

Caffeine increases the production of stomach acid. It's eating holes in you from the inside, watch out

Thanks rose. I didn't know that. It all makes sense now.

I will cut the dose now. May be 200mg only.
