How do you train your abs?

You need load to build muscle, if your holding onto a medicine ball or dumbell, it won't be much weight, think of what you can put on your barbell during squats. Focus on your abs while doing all your compound exercises. That burn you feel in your abs is lactic acid buildup. Some of my clients are very passionate about training abs, sometimes i'll throw in some isolated exercises but to be honest, why bother time is precious. Train smart. \:D/

My abs definately thickened when I ditched the weight belt for the lighter weights, but still not thick enough.

Did them yesterday slow and had the following results.

Hanging leg raises- made little difference in difficulty.

Cable crunches- great, by doing them slower enabled me to better switch on the whole ab wall and work it.

Decline Bench leg hip raises- made the difficult nearly impossible, great result and will continue.

Flags (more like flag negatives on me)- I could barely manage 5, and that was without the actual raising portion where I only managed a half rep. I tucked my knees up then pushed my legs straight up to the start of the movement then lowered. When finished, I could not sit up so had to roll off the bench to the floor the press myself back up onto my feet.

Can't wait to share that one with a few people.

I train my ab - but only cause I find it helps my dodgey back. Ab training and yoga. I always train my clients in core work too cause they just want to feel the burn, if they feel it working they think they are getting a better work out. That is why most of the begginers want to do leg extensions instead of squats, :naughty: but you have to draw the line somewhere.
