Did your advice come from America? they use turkey instead of chicken an awful lot over there....

Lean chook's probably the go in NZ, it's readily available... pointless trying to use something if you can't buy it easily. You might as well use bison or ostrich, both are lean, high in protein, iron etc...

I scored a major bargain at New World a few weeks ago. Chicken was on special and when they had gone round putting the discounted prices on the meat, they went a bit far along the shelves and put one on one of the turkey legs by mistake. Me 1, New World 0.

Not just tasty, but fun to eat because the legs were so huge I felt like I was in an Asterix cartoon or something :)

However that is only the second time I have seen turkey in a supermarket other than at christmas. So I can't really help with where to find some regularly. But if you find somewhere, I would be keen to know too.

According to Wolfram|Alpha, Turkey breast has slightly more protein, slightly less fat and slightly less carbs:

Turkey

Chicken

But I wouldn't think those small differences would be worth the extra cost for Turkey.

There might be factors other than the macro nutrients, which could have some small effect too... Turkey is meant to be a good source of tryptophan, although looking at Wiki, it's about the same as any other poultry.
