Those in Wellington might have heard of the shop called "reduced to clear" which sells goods past their best before date for cheap. It's out in Rongotai near the airport.

Most of it is chocolate (think they have a contract with cadbury) but I just picked up a couple of boxes of atkins protein bars for $12 each ($1 a bar). They also have the CHISEL protein bars but they're a bit worse for wear, the atkins ones only expired in August. 17g protein per bar, cheaper than tuna and tastes pretty good.
