Supplements - Local vs Overseas

Mercury

Recommended Posts

Just doing some self initiated market research and I know a fair amount of people including members on this board order their nuritional supplements online from overseas websites like bb.com and others.

What is your preference for ordering from o/seas than buying local? Is it price, variety/selection? Are there any supps you would like to see here but no-one stocks them?

I agree with frogie, the only thing really worth buying localy is things like protien powders, maybe creatine. The pills are always a rip off in NZ.

If your buying a lot of things at once go overseas. If your just after another tub of protein go local.

I agree with this, it is not only the price here that is sky high but the brand availablity is terrible here. I have not even seen CEE yet for sale here and yet overseas it is huge.

Is CEE meaning ( Creatine Ethyl Ester ) if so i have been useing BSN Cellmass. I have been getting it from Extreme Nutrution West Auckland for $99-00 and if i get the No xplode and Cellmass together it's $190-00

it would be the best supplement i have used for pre and post workout.

Cellmass contains the lastest form of creatine ever developed CEM3 short for creatine-ethyl- ester-malate, combined with Glutamine, AKG and Maltodextrin. There is no loading or cycling. Taken immediately after training 1 scoop with water. For best results wait 30 mins before eating a meal. There are 40 serves per container. I usually consume the stuff before leaving the gym, then by the time I get home I'm ready for my postworkout meal.

Sponge, why don't you go and take a look at some of the supplement stores and there prices. I think you would be quite surprised. The dollar may be good, but by the time you take the freight into consideration and also the chance of the products not even arriving, you would probably find it much cheaper to shop locally. Most of the stores are now stocking all the overseas products and it's people like yourself who are not supporting the retailers. Some of the local stores will really look after their loyal customers!

You should have a read of the bodybuilding.com thread. Happens a number of times. Why don't you also have a look into customs, gst, and health department charges and see just how much importing some 'cheap' supplements can actually cost.

I bought 2.2kg of CEE ex overseas for under $200.00. That's enough to last for a very long time.

I buy overseas because i can buy in bulk. I don't care about the fancy packaging & branding. The stuff I got from trueprotein was in white containers with a budget white sticker slapped on.

The stuff I have bought has always gone USPS. Never got charged GST or any duty. Freight is there but I always do my sums before I buy & see how economical it is.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ive never been hit with tax or duty - but then I try not to over do it and bring in bulk loads. Always gets stopped at customs if you bring in whey anyway.

Youd think theyd not bother, seeing the same product over and over.....

I get Optimum 10lb landed for about $125 (but you gotta get the right amount to find the 'sweet spot' in shipping)

If you can plan ahead and dont mind waiting 1-4 weeks, dont mind sticking your cc number over the web, then its a good option.

I just get nervous having a few hundy worth of product in the hands of unknown shippers.
