Weight loss supplements??

Hi there,

I've been goin to the gym for a while now and managed to lose a good amount of weight naturally (20kg) :D and think I probably have about another 10kg to go. My trainer has just approached me about using cutters and carnitine to speed up the process a bit as my diet/exercise regime is goin well.

Just wondering if anyone can make any recomendations on products? There are so many out their, and they all claim the same thing - but not all things are created equal right??

Would I benefit from taking them or is it too soon and I should lose some more weight first?

Lastly, is carnitine actually effective in weight loss, I've done a bit of reading and there seems to be no scientific evidence but I could be looking in all the wrong places :?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi there. Good results so far! You must be proud of that :)

I'd focus on food rather than wasting money on (overpriced) carnitine. Carnitine is naturally synthesized in our bodies from the amino acids lysine and methionine. Most dairy products, as well as red meats, eggs, and chicken contain carnitine.

If you eat foods high in lysine and methionine your body will make all the carnitine it needs. Otherwise you'll probably end up pissing it away. Unless taken on it's own, other amino acids will compete for uptake. You have no control over whether your body will utilise a particular amino acid over another, or at all.

Maybe find a better trainer? :-s One that can help you achieve the results you want without resorting to quick 'fixes'.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated :nod:

Thanks Ordy I will check out that link laters and I fully understand they will not substitute hard work at the gym/good eating and I definately do not plan on slacking off anytime soon! :P

Thanks for confirming what I have been reading about carnitine Rose, I thought it might be a waste of $, but ya never know for sure unless ya ask around with so many conflicting statements out there on the internet.

Will have to keep thinking about this I think, don't wanna rush into anything unless I know it will work for me - seems kinda pointless otherwise. Afterall what i've been doin has worked so far :) maybe I just needa be a bit more patient?? lol

Well done with the weight loss :clap:

I'm with Rose on this - in many cases the best way to fix a deficiency (or augment a shortfall caused by exercise) in your diet is to fix the deficiency with whole food, not powders and capsules.

Often you can shock the body by:

a. changing the workout dramatically - moving from high-reps to low, or from one long workout each time to two short ones per day, one before work and one afterwards;

b. changing the diet - you could try carb cycling (three days low-carbs, one day high-carbs);

c. adding in additional cardio.

If your goal is to get off the plateau and re-start the weight loss, sure, you could use a thermogenic if you've the money - but often the better ones aren't cheap, and the cheaper ones aren't great. Plus, they can have unpleasant side effects, since many of them are high in caffeine ( if you're caffeine-sensitive, for instance).

Just my 2c worth.

Thanks again guys. And teamfatboy thank you for your 2c worth :)

I think your all right, this is my first week on my new workout routine so will stick at this for a couple weeks and see if i can shock myself again (It worked last time I plateaued), i've also started running to the gym instead of walking which is so nice now the weather is warm! - then maybe I can look at my diet again if I've still made no progress. Well off to the gym now, gotta get moving!

Thanks guys, sometimes it just helps to nut it out with someone to figure out what the heck your doing :D
