Good Gym's in Auckland?

Hi guy's,

I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction... I live in Melbourne but will be moving back to Auck's in a couple of months and want to find a good gym with lots of options for things like RPM and Crossfit as well as a large weightlifting area.

I will be living South east but don't mind driving to town If I have to.

Also I was wondering what the cost of a yearly membership would be as it is expensive over here ($1000) but its worth it cause the gym;s are awesome!

Any help would be great thanks and I happy to help any else if I can. :D

Regards

Shet

Hi all. Grymyrk is right. Its very hard to find parking At auck uni because it is located in city centre, but its a good gym.

Could anyone let me know any other cheap/good gym close to west auckland or around city which are around $450 or so per year please?

les mills and others seem a bit pricey for me. Sorry to hike ur thread bro.

Cheers all.

I went to Youthtown when I lived in Aucks for a couple of years, Nelson St (or Hobson? I always get the two mixed up). Small gym, with only basic equipment, but I think it was around the $350 mark for the year. You also get access to their squash courts, swimming pool and (I think) basketball court. Gym has a speedball and heavy bag too if you're into that kinda thing. The gym goers are generally pretty friendly, it is rarely ever busy so quite easy to get on the gear you're after (I think the busiest period is 5-6, and it's not actually THAT busy). The trainers there are also quite nice (Matt and Kura when I was last there, Kura is easy on the eyes too ;))

Again, the equipment is only the basics but you'll see that if you check it out, it suited me fine for a couple of years though (set a few of my PBs there ). Les Mills isn't far away, but was also a bit too expensive for me.

edit - As for parking, there is some for members there (although I always walked there as I lived/worked nearby), but it generally gets full around the school pickup/dropoff times, as being a center for youths it's quite popular after school for basketball/swimming activities etc. There is also on street parking, which didn't seem to be too expensive the couple of times I was forced to use it (parking down Wellesley just before Glengarry's was slightly cheaper if I remember correctly)

There is west wave out in Henderson. It's a lot more expensive but you can use the pool and stuff also. I think it's $50 to join and then $17 a week but you can cancel anytime. Heaps of free parking and more than enough weights and cardio.

There is also a gym in Glen Eden, plenty of gear but it's all very old and I didn't like atmosphere either, waaaay to pricey as well.

There is the Olympic gym in New Market, has a pool and stuff but I assume it's also very pricey. I can imagine the parking would be bad too.

Lol, yeah heaps of free parking but still most likely that you wont get a park there, that place is shocking most of the time! And even worse if theres an event on..
