Hi everyone, im jamie,16 years old and in dunedin.

Been doing a bit of weightlifting since i was 15 but then got a bit busy with things and havent done it in ages.

Currently got a multigym and free weights in the garage.

After finding this site im all motivated to get back into it again.

Currently got a job as a scaffolder (currently labourer) so need to build up a lot of strength to get better and faster.

Only 2 things im having trouble with is my diet and controlling carbs, protein, etc. Just trying to put together some sort of daily guide of what to eat.

Anyway, this is a great forum and should bet a lot of info from it 8)

ive worked as a scaffolder for 3 years (2 in dunedin)

make sure you look after yourself, it is heavy work.

carry loads on both shoulders....alternating i mean, dont just carry on your preferred side all the time.

dont try to keep up with the old hands who are tough as f*ck.....and most likely drunk and stoned

i wouldnt be trying to control too much in your diet apart from monitoring your weight and making sure it is going up without too much fat, you will need all the energy you can eat. go for 50/50 meat and carbs, and snack on the fats like nuts while your working......so if your having a sandwich the meat in the middle is the same thickness as 2 unsquashed slices of bread.....

have a really massive breakfast..........major serve of porridge, fruit, yogurt for entree, then a shitload of eggs as main.

when you get home and cooking dinner.......i would be cooking 4 meals in one go. eat 2 in the evening (one asap after getting back) and then you take two for eating the next day at work.......again 50/50 meat carbs....each the size of your hand when cooked

not sure when your training....be careful how you do this in given you are lifting heavy all day......add in some shakes after training, and before bed, maybe take one to work just incase you get hungry

hope this helps, look after yourself

thanks, ive been scaffolding now for 2 years, my dad got me into it but lately i have been feeling so unfit at work, i seem to be getting slower and slower.

When i go shoppin next, i am going to buy some meat to go in my lunch and whatnot, i usually have beans on toast or a sausage sandwhich before i leave for work and that will usually get me through to lunch but will start bringing bigger lunches and see how that goes.

I started using protein shakes no long ago but was consantly being sick, might try it again but use it less often.

thanks for that, some great info there!!!!

hello mate :P

eat every break u get man. as a young fella in a physical job ull be burning calaires like crazy so load up.

How long have u=you been working for? I was 16 when i started full time work and It was tough on me too, Id crash after work all the time but you will get conditioned to it.

And great advice about carrying loads on difrent shoulders etc. I wish I didnt go so hard out when i was younger(i actly dont regret it, go hard or go home) but warming up, stretching and things like that may have helped some of the wrist and shoulder pains I suffer from now. SO take care of the body! even tho u wana overdo the old fellas.

Happy progress

Peace

PS Don't smoke

yea usually during tea breaks and whatnot i have some sandwhiches and a drink but as you said, will start eating more and filling up those sandwhiches to get more energy.

When i was younger, me n my parents moved to the uk and my dads a scaffolder (thats how i got into it), started when i was 14 and came back to nz 9 months ago. I can tell you the gear here is sooo much heavier.

Whilst working in england, i was faster than some of the experienced guys there but all of a sudden im losing weight, weaker and much much slower.

anyway, i will take advantage of the breaks and eat much more and look into shakes.

Thanks again
