Supermarket protein powder

Recommended Posts

Hi

I use Horleys Essential Protein from Pak 'N Save (probably also available in other supermarkets). I have 6 scoops a day (about 52g of protein all up).

Is this brand crap? I have heard that supermarket protein powders are a waste of time. If this is true, can anyone recommend a cheap protein powder that is good quality?

The Horleys ones I get are about $26 for 450g (about 36 scoops).

Thanks

Thanks for your replies guys, I am going to order some from eatme.co.nz, sooo much cheaper then what I was buying and looks like it has less carbs and more protein too!

What is the difference between whey protein and whey isolate? Is isolate better because it has more protein?

Whey isolate is purer so more protein per serve.

Also tends to be absorbed by your body faster so is good post workout.

I find it a little expensive so tend to use a mix between isolate and concentrate. It all just depends what your goals are and how much your prepared to spend.

If your having around 3 servings a day isolate might be a bit of overkill.

I use isolate straight after my workout because it absorbs fast and it is a massive protein hit. And I use whey concentrate at other times during the day mixed with milk for slower absorbtion.

Yeah the supermarkets sting you on the small containers.
