I got into the gym part time around 2005, my training partner at the time was a border line power lifter (68kgs and incline benching nearly 120kgs) so of course i thought i could push more than I was capable. About a year into it I was attempting dumbell flyes and and popped my rotator cuff out.

As my gym then turned into re-hab my diet went up and down and reached a round 85kgs over winter. I work as tennis coach so one decided enough is enough and dropped weight to under 75 kgs, because of my lack of information i lost mostly muscle. From this point I've tried over the last two years to get abs..and well still waiting. From the constant amount of tennis i have a predominantly larger right hand side of my body (forearm, arm, shoulder and back)

Last year i went to the states and worked for a couple of months, most of the guys were cut and buff so provided me with some determination, upon returning to NZ purchased a superpump 250 and sizeon stack and have gone from 77kgs in September 2008 to 87kgs now and have been taking training seriously since. Still trying to focus on uni-lateral training, the gains I've made have me tossing up whether to try get bigger or go back to focusing on abs (will be on the tennis court 20 hours a week during summer, should i still do cardio?)

hi, sounds like a rocky road in the last few years....

why the focus on unilaterial training?

also why are you giving up on overall growth in favor of your abs?? do you like the boxy look?

those products are full of sugar.....maybe switch to plain old mono and tidy up your diet and the abs will come through with a bit more cardio (or tennis)

Welcome :D I'd never stoppped to fathom the pitfalls of a sport where you're using one side of your body more than another til now. Interesting! I gather that's why you do unilateral training, so you can focus on the weaker side?

Just trying to bring some eveness, I'm right handed so right arm/shoulder/back and chest are more developed than my left e.g. my right pec is higher than my left and from some angles looks weird.

Another aspect is that my left quad, glute and ham are stronger than my right if you can imagine a tennis player leading with their left foot (or planting foot)

hi, sounds like a rocky road in the last few years....

Rocky road got another bump, had a sharp pain under my knee cap when warming up for squats about a fortnight ago, pain didn't go away so physip visit and stetched ligements in my right knee; weak glute lead to tight hams and even weaker inner quad so no stairs, no major imapct, no squats or deadlifts :x nearly 25 and it's just continual rehab, can still use stationary bike and continue upper body training so guns out for summer

why the focus on unilaterial training?

My right forearm is like a piece of wood, so much more cut than left, if you get a chance have a look at rodger federer's arm his left nearly blows in the wind compared to his right (mine's not quite that bad but you'll get it when you see it)

also why are you giving up on overall growth in favor of your abs?? do you like the boxy look?

I've never had abs, cut and lean everywhere on my body except for my guts, have the two upper ones but can't shake the bottom one, was still there 10kgs ago

those products are full of sugar.....maybe switch to plain old mono and tidy up your diet and the abs will come through with a bit more cardio (or tennis)

Coaching more than playing but i guess i'm still moving and being active for that many hours a week. Have gone back to monohydrate creatine and working well, definatley more discipline needed food wise
