Why Do You Drink Alcohol?

Been a doorman up here in Auckland for over 3 years...Auckland is fairly tame in regards to the level of violence and being able to walk down the street peacefully compared to some cities IMO.

Really? i would have thought youd get heaps of trouble up there? are fights ect common at your bars?

I was comparing Auckland to Christchurch / Palmy etc...

We get trouble up here, no doubt...fighting is just part of a normal fri sat night. Just heard that it's worse elsewhere...

Depends what type of bar your running ... Auckland is on a diff buzz if you get my meaning. I quit security about 8 years ago - had been working doors for a decade. Things escalated initially after the drinking age changed - but more people have changed to "doof doof" the drinking culture is not as hardcore in AKL.

After living in Auk for a few months I have to say it's wayyyyy more chilled. It's the first place in NZ for all the latest trends to come through. Like Optimass said there is a big DnB scene up there. A lot of drugs, a bigger focus on going to gigs to have a good time, less focus on heading into town to f*ck some c*nts up. Auk just seems to be more developed culturally. I don't have a bias towards them, as you can see I'm from ChCh.

CRIMEchurch!!!!!!!! :pfft:

horible situation arose, hostility etc, i tried to get away but was chased and attacked by one dude, i ended up taking all his teeth from his mouth, smearing his nose across one side of his face and putting him into a hospitilised state.

f*ck that shit.

Bro, not your fault, you ran away to get away from a violent situation and it came to you. Good on you for handling yourself

I reckon one scary bluff line is "I'll give you one more chance to walk away, or I'll break your arm in two places". I haven't used it LOL, never will. I'm too busy having a good time \:D/

Yeah I've pretty much given up drinking. Had a few good blowouts last year once I re-discovered freedom (oops I mean got got a divorce lol), but in general, I stay off the sauce. 11 years in security, including a lot of door work, dealing with pissed students, undy 500s (yes worked Uni for a few of the riots) really put me off the effects. I really hate the thought that I could descend to the levels of stupidity that I have seen while working.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against responsible drinking, and even the occasional blowout (I'm sure I haven't had my last one ever), basically I'm just not 18 any more, and can't act like I am.

lol too true! I drink to get drunk. Theres no real inbetween thats why I want to give up. I only touch alcohol on a Saturday night and if I'm going out I'll hit it hard. I only shot vodka because anything else usually contains too much sugar. I've built up such a tolerancy to spirits its ridiculous what I have to put my body through to get drunk. Agree with Peachy too that its always more fun to drink if everyone else is. So in saying that, I guess its also the pressure of other people. sad. But not the taste, oh no!
