Hi Ladies :) is anybody currently on this stuff or has been on it before? I am having a serving after my gym workout. I am trying to get myself into a proper eating plan for my weight/fat loss goals. I am only trying to have carbs before 4pm (I don't really eat a lot of carbs). Other than having this after the gym, is it ok to have it at night? Or should I only really be using it during the day when I am active? Also, when is a time at night that i should not be eating? Our dinner time is typically between 6.30- 8pm is this ok or should I be eating earlier? Any comments appreciated. TIA.

Yup, i started using it before I got into weight training. IMO it's way too expensive and you're better off buying other whey protein powders.

I used to have some for breakfast and then some post workout.

It depends on what types of foods you're eating for dinner, if you're eating carbs - try to have them earlier but you can have protein anytime

Try having a casein shake or some slow releasing protein (cottage cheese) before bed to help your muscles recover if you've worked out that day

Cool thanks :) I am not eating any carbs after 4pm now since talking to some people on here and that is working out quite well. I was talking to my trainer today and he was talking about not having a certain type of shake too late in the day? Is that a meal replacement?

Also, what is a good powder to have with water? Sculp tastes foul with water but i down it anyway. If they all taste like that then thats all good. Would rather have a bad tasting drink than put on more weight

no pain no gain huh?

A meal replacement shake will have lots of carbs and a fair bit of fat in it depending on which one you get - they're made for slow releasing energy for the "average" person, not for someone on a low carb, high protein diet. I don't think sculpt tastes too bad with water but you'll find lots of protein shakes taste fine

I use Sculpt as well as some of the other types of protein powder. I don't tend to use it as a shake anymore though - as Becbec said, it's pretty yuk in water (but really lovely in milk) - so instead I use it when I want to add protein powder to other things like my oats in the morning (banana Sculpt with oats is very yum!), or with yogurt if I need to boost my protein levels for the day.

It is very expensive if you buy it at the supermarket, around $30 or more - but if you look around you can find good specials, especially in gyms. My husband's gym (City Fitness - not sure if you have them in Auckland) had it on special for $20 for absolutely ages (sadly not anymore), and my gym currently has a special where you pay something like $38 for it (which is ridiculously expensive), but you also get a 12 pack of the Sculpt protein bars with it. So the way I see it is that I'm paying $20 for the protein powder (good price), and then getting a bunch of bars for $1.50 each (normally over $3 each). The bars aren't the best on the market, but very yummy and good for emergencies (better to have a couple of those in your handbag/gym bag than grabbing a Moro if you need to eat something and there's nothing else clean around).

Whey MAXXX by PVL is really good in water, best of all the ones i've tried.

I agree - I'm on that also and the pricing is pretty good ($92 from Shotgun 5lb). For a treat I'll have a scoop and a half in water after dinner and damn, rich chocolate drink :)

I WAS, and it was expensive, but I really liked the taste. I now take NutraShape (? I'm in bed, so I can't be bothered rushing out to check) it's a women's "shaper" and the container is pink. I got it for $20 for 500gms.

But what really got me was when I told the lady I bought it off that I was having it with trim milk and Weetbix for breakfast and she literally went ape at me because of the "carbs".

I was so offended. :naughty:

Got the swiss choc flavour and it Tastes pretty good ( i have it with trim milk as it tastes horrible to me with water)

I put it in my milkshake maker and blend for ages so it gets incredibly frothy and expands so feels like im drinking heaps haha

For the ladies...

 Those with aspirations of slimmed, toned figures read on- look past the marketing that you can only buy small tubs with a female figure on the jar. Instead, look at the nutritional profile (per serve) for:

15g+ of Sustained protein blend (look for combo of whey (fast) + egg (medium) + micellar casien (slow) or Milk Isolate

<6g low carbs

<4g low fat per serve

and you will get lean, toned and save $ too.

 Along with exercising at least 3 -4 times per week, keep it basic to make your goals acheivable.

Generally speaking, it is preferable to select a meal replacement type product light in carbs since these are too present in most diets. Besides, if you need more carbs, adding a piece of healthy fruit, filled with antioxidants, fibre and other nutricous goodness is easy (banana, apples, berries, oranges etc)- preparing and storing quality protein sources unfortunately is not.

Eat smaller portion of your breakfast, lunch and dinner and consider using one of the below products as a snack between meals and even before bed so you have a "treat" that will eleveate your metabolism and repair your body between meals and in your sleep- AKA improve body tone.

My picks for a low cal, high protein (containing fast, med and slow), low carb (low sugar) and low fat are:

High end:

 Gaspari Myofusion

Found it very cheap here:

 Best taste and thickness on the market

Extra vitamins, digestives enzymes, good fats that assist fatloss (flax, safflower, CLA)

1 scoop = 25g Protein blend (meaning your appetite and toning continues from the moment you drink it for several hours after), 3g Good Fat, 5g Carbs (1g Healthy Fibre)

Medium end

\:D/ Inner Armour "Superquad" (Quad as in 4 types of sustained release proteins)

Very good taste, medium thickness

No extra bells and whistles

Best Value for Money

Cookies & Cream is my familys favourite flavour (even my 3 year old)

24g Protein, 5g Carbs, 2 Fat

Found it cheap here too

Hope this makes it easier to select products in the marketplace and toning goals for summer both achievable & sustainable.
