Group exercise career information

Hi there,

I'm interested in becoming a group exercise instructor. If there are any group instructors (or if you know any) out there that could let me know what qualifications are required and what the earning potential is per class (and how many classes you would work per week)?

I've met a GEI from my university gym who worked teaching part time who learnt how to conduct classes doing a one week course through the gym, and started out earning $20 per class, going up to $40 for experienced instructors, is this typical for most gyms?

My friend who works for the Manukau Council gets paid $50 per class, this is via the 'Radical Fitness' brand of group fitness, details on the training up for this type of group fitness was around $600bucks, other details like duration and time to complete im not sure about, apparently you had to submit your own video/dvd of a group class performed before you get qualified in this type of certification. Obviously, his job paid for his training, which can be a rarity.
