Splitting up Legs?

Evidence! None of you have put up anything to support you opinion. Not a single person. Only personal attacks, which makes me think you have nothing.

I'm happy to learn something new, unlike some others here. Give me link that proves your points and I'll happily change workout/opinion. And please don't waste my time with anything that hasn't been published in a journal.

Dude did you see the link to the picture of specters legs ? That right there is what i call evidence to support his point..

fucksakes, whos needing evidence? the vast, vast, vast majority of top level bber's train legs seperately, natural or otherwise. the point of this thread is for people to share their experiences on whats worked for them, not trying to discount eachother!

?evidence? is what works, this isnt a court case - this reminds me of the dale shepard thread - someone demanding evidence when its not fucken necessary, unless your calling everyone liars??

and yep, specter backed up his opinion with a pics of his legs - but he didnt have to.

xen, if you dont like the opinions shared by the majority, please refrain from telling us all how wrong we all are...

Compound movements alone and full body routines are fine by themselves for beginners like xen. He mentioned in another thread he only does flat barbell bench press for chest. A newbie can stimulate his/her muscles in any way and they will grow. So the basic compound movements fit the deal perfectly. Plus, it can be a bit daunting to learn a lot of exercises all at once when you're just starting out like xen is.

However what makes his arguments arbitrary is that he shouldn't be giving out BS advice like fact until he's at a respectable level himself. What he hasn't learnt yet is to move up to this level he's going to have to move away from basic training, add in new exercises and rest his muscles more (i.e. not train the way he is training!). Therefore will change his opinion!

So I agree what Kiwijuice has said, xen should take a back seat with an open mind and learn from others on here who have done it themselves, not from bogus men's health studies.

Great thread with good points raised by all. The fact is that it is physically & bio-mechanically impossible to split up legs into specific groups such as Quads, Hamstrings & Glutes because all muscle groups are utilised in the extension (adduction) & retraction (abduction) of the upper leg.

Glutes allow rising movements like sitting up & climbing. Full back squats hit all the quadriceps muscles, the hamstrings, and the glutes which is why they are regarded the king of all exercises. Certainly it is possible to hit different leg muscles with different exercises to target them more specifically but the question of whether splitting them up into different days is more about how much intensity, weight & time you wish to dedicate to leg workouts. Often if you are say working more specifically on very heavy leg press with reps up to 20, followed by hack squats & maybe leg extensions, it is not possible to then start training specific hamstring exercises so it becomes more convenient to leave the rest of the rear leg workout until another day. I think there is a place for both single & split leg workouts but as Mike Zero points out it gets back to the amount of weight you move around & experience in leg training that plays a big role in how you train legs for maximum growth.
