hey ladies my partner n I had a baby girl 7 months ago, now in the last 3 months my partner has been doin various things to help drop the 20 kg she put on during her pregnancy.

We have 20 kg of protein powder , and she eats small portions of veges and protein, and enjoys a cuppa tea and a biscuit every now n then.

Rather than crash diet she has adopted this as a lifestyle choice.

Again she isnt a bodybuilder etc

Shes almost ready to hit the gym again, but the question she has which Im stuck for an answer is, her scale weight has stayed the same lately , yet shes dropped a dress size , and her clothes are starting to hang off her more each week..

Shall we adopt the thought that how the clothes fit means shits working and shes dropping fat, and to just up her cardio etc , and not worry what the scale says.

I just dont want to hear her dissappointed any more.

Any ideas or experience from ladies that have may be had a couple kids , I would greatly love to hear ...

cheers

Big dan

Yes, I say do this! I haven't had kids, but I recently lost a bit of weight - not a great deal, only 6kg, but after several years of bitching about how much weight I'd put on (14kg since I first met my husband), and then spending the last couple of years trying to lose it and losing heart at the first hurdle because I wasn't doing it sensibly, I also decided to adopt the sensible lifestyle choice kind of eating plan, rather than that nonsense where you obsess over the numbers each week and are generally doomed to failure.

While dropping this weight, I had great scale success in the first couple of weeks, then there were a couple of months when the scales just refused to budge, though I seemed to be eating a lot less than in the past, and it seemed odd that such a big lifestyle change had only resulted in about a 2.5kg loss.

But in the meantime, my clothes were starting to feel looser, and I was feeling great, so I didnt do anything silly and say 'oh bugger it, I'll just go eat cake' and instead just kept going - workouts 5 days a week (mostly weights, a little cardio), and eating sensibily. The rest ultimately fell off and my clothes are now hanging off me and I decided to stop the weight loss as I don't need to lose 14kg, I'm good where I am with a 6kg loss.

I think that sometimes your body just takes a while to adapt to a change in eating. I don't think that means that she's necessarily plateaued or stopped losing weight - she might be like me, and after a month or so her body might catch up.

Keeping a food diary is a great way of knowing exactly what you're eating, and that was what got me on the straight and narrow with eating. Knowing that I was going to write down every single thing I ate made me think twice about too many treats (but I also had treats every now and then, just not every day, as it's hardly a treat if it's every day) - even though I was the only one looking at the food diary, seeing it written down means you can see exactly in black and what what you're doing and where changes and improvements might be made. I'm still making changes and improvements to my diet after almost 7 months, and it's getting me the results I want, so it's all good!

Good luck to your partner!
